Surley catastrophic failure like that just one week out of warranty would call for some goodwill payment from the suppliers? Bad luck and hope you get it sorted and back on the road. :driver:

Exactly VW knew it had been mapped has I had to sign a disclaimer every time I had any thing done there.  Although the blown turbo was not done at VW they where prepared to argue the tos with TPS but has I had it mapped they advised it wouldn't be the best way.

I think I will have a better car when it comes back any way so alls well I suppose. If I wasn't thinking of selling the car before the the turbo went an hybrid was on the card at some stage.

Really sorry you could have done without the extra expense... will have to follow carefully what route u'll be following as can hear a whistling sound from mine... so might have to follow the hybrid route some time in future if it decides to pack up

Hope it gets resolved quickly

Only thing is Hafeez I had no warning, the turbo sounded fine the only problem I think I had was the EGR cooler leaking into the exhaust????

Cheers Liver I appreciate that, but they guy doing my car has it stripped down now and called me today with the news :sad1:

He said and I quote "what the hell did you do to it" apparently the turbo is now in 2 halves :surprised: he said he's never seen one actually split in 2 the shaft and impeller where not there :sad1: but the good news is its only taken the intercooler with it.

So new hybrid turbo quote was around £750 - £800 for the turbo and a new intercooler around £250 plus obvious stuff like gaskets and lubes the Cat Converters insides are getting knocked out and mapped out and also once done it will be live mapped to make it strong :happy2:

I'm not after numbers I just want a car that is going to last.

Stu + PDT I asked him to check for oil starvation but he already checked and said it was fine nothing wrong with that,

It should be ready once we can get the turbo in.

Darren

If you could ask which emulator they are using to live map, I have 2 EDC16 (type of ecu on your car) emulators, neither are much good!

Also, shaft snapping is usually down to too much boost or oil starvation. Oil starvation shows as wear on the shaft or a blue discolouration from the excess heat.

EGR cooler can leak into the oil and cause the shaft to snap, as can a faulty vnt actuator. Any fault codes stored relating to overboost?

Could this not be down to something like the oil pump? Low oil pressure makes the oil light come on and this could lead to your oil starvation if that's the cause. Maybe ask him to check oil pressure once all is up and running again.

I only check oil when the light comes on I've not used the car for about 3 weeks so It just went out of my head.

I don't know if anyone knows Steve Tate from SAC in Kippax(it used to be behind the petrol station in Swillington)but he is excellent when it comes to stuff like this so rather than natter at him Ill leave him to it and give him my bank card when its done. Trust in a mechanic is an hard thing to do but trust Steve with my car whole heartedly .

Ill let you all know what happens in the next few days.

Ill ask about the emulators PDT and see what he says?

Cheers

I went to see the car today but Steve wasn't there so Ian took me through what was happening and showed me the affected parts that have been replaced.

Any way the turbo is here I'm not sure of the specifics but it did say Garrett on it

The car on the ramp with the steering rack cradle and rack dropped,

Nice new Hybrid turbo

And something you don't see often, plus the cradle and intercooler in the back ground.

Some parts on the floor with the damaged turbo

Not sure when it will be done cos they are very busy at the moment so maybe late next week?

Bloody hell you both. If you had pet ducks, they would both have drowned by now. I really hope you boys get these oil burners sorted. It's good to hear a recommendation for your spanner men, too. I'll bear it in mind if I'm ever in need.

Fingers x guys.
