Do you have an end point in sight for your modded Gti?
« on: May 11, 2011, 10:11:30 pm »
The bug has bitten me quite hard and have gone from "well, lets just see that stg 1 feels like" to "now i am at stage 2+, i need a LSD and clutch next" so do you have a place where you think you might want to get to and be satisfied?

For me to do -

a.) RS4 Fuel Valve
b.) Quaife and Sachs clutch
c.) RNS 510, new speaker components, blue tooth
d.) Stickier tyres

and might do but still unsure

e.) Pipewerx tbe
f.) Bilstein suspension
g.) S3 rear brakes
h.) private plate
i) 19 inch wheels

I think that would definately see my work done...  :pomppomp:

Modifying IMO is continuously improving the car to your liking. Some people are happy with Stage 1, others want all show, others still want all go.

At the moment, budget is what constricts me from doing much to the car. The biggest thing I want is a full rubdown and respray.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

yes, from what i gather you are a bit of a detailing king, so not surprised you looking to keep your car tidy. If you bought a gti again would you buy another DBP one? I have had red cars in the past so fancied black or white and could not find a CW ED30.

I wouldn't mind a full rubdown either! Haha

As with most on here. I started off just wanting colour coded skiers and bumper. £6000 spent later and still want a barrooms boot install, leather retrim for doorcards and parcelshelf. Stage 2 remap. Highline.  Alcantara roof lining.
Porsche brakes.
And as stealth said, a full custom glass out respray

 Not a king so much as an amateur but I like cleaning my car when I get the chance.  :signLOL:

If you bought a gti again would you buy another DBP one?
Difficult. I love DBP when it's clean. This is why I find detailing so rewarding - it makes such a huge difference. However, would I buy it again? Not so sure. I think CW would be even more difficult to maintain as it's so easy to spot a dirty one. Grey/silver would be most forgiving. Red looks quite good when clean. You'd have to ask the likes of Pinky and Perky about their red cars.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

No end in sight for me - household budget and the wife keeping me from going mad on all sorts.

Need a lottery win to "Finish" modding the Mighty GTI!  :driver:

in terms of power mods though once you are at stg 2+, how many people actually go hybrid ko4/nitrous/big turbo? i have been surprised how relatively "cheap" it was to get to this stage by buying parts off here but am sure to go any further would be  in terms of cost

One thing leads to another. I gave up on having an end point a long time ago.

The slippery slope of modding. No regrets whatsoever though. And after nearly 6 years I still haven't finished.

As you are staying at stg 2 Robin, what is left to do on your car? Save weight? Improve interior?

....Yes, am staying at Revo2 for longevity. Interior already improved with GTI cloth Recaro's and carbon vinyl trim. Not going to compromise the interior comforts by saving weight there. I've been happy with my car's performance for some time. Carbon wings are on the list because I need new wings anyway.  :happy2:
