Security Wheel Bolt
« on: May 12, 2011, 09:00:02 am »
The Security wheel bolt on my car has been damaged and the key turns inside the bolt as all the ridges have been worn/wrung off. This is after its visit to my local VW Garage for service. They say they didn't do it and don't remove wheels during a service !

Anyway how can i get it off so i can replace it?

Yes may do , but until i buy it i won't know. The security bolt is on a Pescara wheel so don't know whether it will fit over the old security bolt and not cause any damage to the wheel. Anyone?

the socket in the link won't work as it won't fit over the out side..Amazes me that you take your car into the dealers for a service and they don't remove the wheels :fighting:as they can get stuck onto the hub after a while..i have removed them in the past with a set of sump plug sockets or if your in the AA etc they have the proper tool for it

Why would you need to remove them for a service?

3 reasons Rich one so the alloy doesn't corrode it self to the hub so you can't get the wheel of if you get a puncture and the other is to check the pads as you can't see the inner one with the wheel on..the last one to take the pads out on a service to clean them up

Had the same problem,(albeit caused by previous owner not Vw) had to get my local indie to look at it, had to have it drilled out in the end, as they could find no tool to go round the outside of the bolt as its such a tight area.
