RNS 510 A B AND C ?
« on: May 12, 2011, 10:25:29 am »
YES ANOTHER RNS510 QUESTION FROM ME

Whats the difference between the three versions? I know the latest one has a LED screen. I have also seen a version D , is there such a thing?

Version A is to be avoided - it is an old system now and cant be upgraded as easily as the B and C units

B was a later revision with a different mainboard and better upgrade functionality
C was again a later revision, with later C versions having an LED screen - apart from the screen, the internals are the same as a B
D is coming later this year and has a faster processor, better graphics and a larger HDD

Yes

Get a B or a C - a C if you can afford it as the screen is much better.

With regards to the D version coming soon, i wish they would include a sub pre out and have bluetooth built in.
But that would never happen as the bluetooth would clash with the add on you can buy  :sad1:

It would be nice wouldnt it! But yes, VW have a marketing plan and that definately wouldnt fall into it

Granted though its not difficult to add a line to pre adapter piggy backed onto the rear speaker wiring. Mine looks OEM now ive finished with it and wrapped it all in.

When i had an RNS510 installed i too had the sub piggy backed onto the rear speaker wiring. However unless the ICE speaclist installed it wrong i found that on some songs from sd card and cd sounded bassy when they should be, but the same songs from my ipod and radio sounded wrong i.e with hardly any bass.

Since changing to a Pioneer AVIC-F9210BT with a sub pre-out every song through any media sounds perfect. The tweeter, mid and woofer and sub are all doing their jobs correctly.

Sorry for taking off topic  :sad1:

Cant say I get that issue with mine, but I know for a fact its installed correctly  :happy2:

F9210 is a good HU, and having a dedicated pre out is always better, but hey whatever works with what you have.

Some C models are different too, ie newer ones have the star button.

I can't believe bluetooth is not built-in to this unit, instead I have to pay £200+ extra, sod that!

Ill let you into a little secret VW already do an RNS with built in bluetooth... :happy2: its called the RNS850 and comes in the new Touaregs you'll be able to look at it on youtube or similar.

The new RNS510 is going to be no more different than what we have apart from the software and hardware i.e it will look the same but the hard drive will be 40GB and other than that the software will be updated.

RNS850 ftw

The D version has a much smoother UI though which is a big step up on the lag that the B and C has

With the RNS's are the button colours still red or are they different or does that depend on what version you have??

Just seen pics of the 850. Doesn't look as good but love the 3D display!

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.
