E-MFA Dis Add On Compatibility
« on: May 13, 2011, 09:34:58 am »
Im thinking of purchasing one of these

http://www.kufatec.de/shop/product_info.php/language/en/info/p1329_E-MFA-DIS-Add-On---Display-Boost--Oil--Battery.html/XTCsid/5ac96dd026d5a774e151a4beb293d17f

Think it will be a useful addition for displaying extra values like Oil Temp and battery voltage without resorting to external gauges.

However before I do does anyone know if it will still be compatible with my car as I now have an aftermarket Alpine double din headunit installed?
I do have the full highline display but no cruise control(yet!) or Multi Function Steering Wheel.

I could do with your advice before shelling out!

And does it give actual boost? Ive seen this on alexperkins car and it is a cool little mod!

Which page does it use on the highline? Does it replace the satnav page?

It uses the telephone page, so you cant use it if you have a phone kit but it comes as part of the Fiscon phone kits.  Should work with the aftermarket headunit as it doesnt use the head unit at all it just uses the headunit wiring to gain access to the canbus system and as a power source.

It doesnt show boost on TFSI engine unfortunately think its only good for diesels otherwise it would be a useful tool.

Rich

It wont give boost. As said its only good for diesel engines

Its very useful, though its interesting as the speed is often a few mph out when you get to higher speed which suggests the clocks are somewhat inaccurate!

Ive noticed my speedo is out at higher speed with comparison to my TomTom GPS speed display.
Im guessing the GPS is more accurate.  But gonna get one of these E-MFA addons ordered.
I dont think you can have too much info about whats going on in the engine.

Got a boost gauge installed already so not too worried it doesnt display that info. :driver:

Aye that what I mean - the clocks will show 90, but the EMFA will show like 82/83 so im not sure where it reads its speed from

I get Oil Temp, Battery Voltage, RPM and Water Temp - all very useful as you know when you can give it some beans safely!

The clocks have a built in inaccuracy, but the satnav and the E MFA use the dead reckoning figure sent across the canbus system, if you have the RNS and go into the diagnostic menu you can see the dead reckoning figure, you can also alter the factor on your speedo to make the needle more accurate.

The Polar FIS one looks interesting as it uses the telematics highline screen rather than the telephone screen, it however goes in-line with the canbus so not as easy to fit!  Also no uk supply only in Spain at the moment.  They do have a list of ECU's that supply boost across canbus which would be the same as the Fiscon unit.

So that said, the EMFA is a more accurate speed than the clocks?

Yeah its using the proper road speed as calculated by the ECU the ECU signal in the clocks has a wiggle factor added so it over reads.

I'm just about to order one of these for myself but for my 1.9 TDI. I'm hoping the boost works on it as I want to avoid the cost/install of a gauge!

The E-MFA is more accurate than my Becker GPS. I bet it's even more accurate than any commercial GPS.
We compared it several times with a Performance Box and the E-MFA was very close to it. Much more
close than the Becker GPS.

The reason: standard GPS only have 1 Hz, the Performance Box has 10 Hz and the E-MFA detects the
wheel speed.

I don't want to miss the easy to read and correct speed, voltage, oil temp and water temp anymore.
I'm very happy with it. The most satisfying item of my car.  :happy2:

I have always wanted this as well, but due to having OEM bluetooth havent been able too so the one using the telematic screen is of interest, doesnt state if it shows the corrected speed unfortunately.

Dario do you have any pictures or video of yours working and functions it can display for example the corrected speed?  Also which supplier did you use?

Richn83, I presume that list is from the Polar one rather than kufatec? I wonder if there's a difference in compatible ecu's between them. Mine is SW: 03G 906 021 PM    HW: 03G 906 021 AN.

which by looking at your post means it's a no go for boost :(
