MDI in glove box
« on: May 13, 2011, 10:38:39 am »
Just fitted an RNS510, I believe I have the centre console that doesn't accept the docks so i'm looking at a MDI kit for the glove box.

What parts do I need for that and is it just a loose wire?

its about £120 from VW direct normally - give your dealer a call and see what they can offer.

Cable is about £10-£15 on ebay

Interesting stuff, didn't know this was possible without the dock.

Is it just the same kit but without the dock? Does that kit work if the dock is just removed?

yes thats the shorter cable

It is possible without the dock, but the retro kit comes with an MDI interface extension cable so itll reach the glovebox so you can plug the mdi>ipod lead into it

Any idea if the RCD310 uses the same MDI kit to the glove box? Same connection on the back as the RNS?

Do you have to ditch the cd changer if you have on in your armrest to fit this? Or is there another port on the back of the stereo? Think mine is a rcd310 too?

Thanks

You dont have to, but if you want to keep the changer, youd have to located the MDI in the glovebox
