Its odd, when i had the choice of the R32 and the ED30 i went for the ed30, but with these two i would much rather have the R

Golf R for me,
The new ed35 doesn't really state "35" years if you ask me, the seats in the ed30 are similar to the mk1,along with other bits,
The ed35 doesn't show any type of resemblance to the mk1
But that's just my 2p's worth!  :drinking:

I too pondered the R32/ Ed30 dilemma and went for the Ed30 in 2007 purely as I didn't want the 3.2 6 pot guzzler.
Even though the 6 pot sound is rather fab.

So given the choice now of 4 pot turbo FWD, or 4 pot turbo 4WD, I'd have the R. So that's what I'd buy/voted for.

That said if I didn't still need VW Golf practicality, baby seat, dogs and golf clubs etc.
I might have a ponder at a Rocco R, (sorry do realise this is a Ed35 or R vote off).

Seem to recall EVO mag stated the Rocco R (FWD chassis), which is a bit lighter than the 4WD Golf R, was the VW designers preferred tool.

I guess the Golf R/Rocco R/S3 engine in a FWD Golf is actually an Ed30, which kind of brings me full circle..

ED35.

The R is a bit too shouty for me, I wouldn't appreciate the 4-mo as it's nothing more than a dead weight in anything but the rain and I don't go drag racing. At least the R32 had the soundtrack to make it a different animal from the GTI.

Likewise I'd take a Rocco R over a Golf R. Give me less weight, add a real diff and c£8k saving any day of the week.
Sideways yo!

Golf R over the ED35.. It would be more difficult to decide between a Rocco R and Golf R as my mind changes daily between them 2

See your going for the R from the other forum. I still think your mad not sticking with the RS considering.
Just specced up the R..............

£42,438  :o  £9,443 of options on it  :-X

The RS3 I had on order was £42,370  ???

VAG pricing strategy seems mad to me!!

Difficult to answer as I still didn't make my mind 100% about which car I will buy to replace my crashed Audi A3.

I'm considering: Golf GTI, Golf R, Scirocco R, A3, S3.

I'm going to test drive a Golf GTI and a Golf R next week-end, so may be things will appear clearer for me.

Any way, I voted for the ED35.

The golf R Bumpers and exhaust look sexiest than the GTI.
The TFSI engine is much easier to upgrade.
But, as said Tony Danza, the Golf R got (IMO) a pointless and heavy (120 extra kg) four wheels drive transmission.

I rather prefer the lighter and cheaper FWD GTI ED35. You can still fit a LSD to improve traction and an APR K04 turbo kit which will provide as much power as a Golf R.

About my personnal choice I think I will stick with an A3 for the same reason.

Scirocco look is a little bit showy for me and got much too thick wind screen pilar which bother my view while driving.

Depends on if you want a red car or a blue one!

Red: ED35
Blue: R

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.
