What would the steering column electrics have to do with the P lock though  on a DSG in any case

You can't take the keys out unless it's in P.

Can you move the gearlever/start the car?

Sorry Dawain but I think you may be at the mercy of VW recovery and the dealer on this one.  :sad1:

Taken from ROSS-TECH WIKI!!

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/28775/U0103/049411

28775/U0103/049411 - No Communication with Gear Selector Module

Possible Causes
Communication Failure with Gear Selector Module
Communication Failure between CAN-Gateway and Transmission Control Module
Selector Lever (E313) faulty
Tiptronic Buttons (F189) in Selector Lever (E313) faulty
Shift Selector Locking Solenoid (N110) faulty

If it's not the mechatronic, then can it be?  Suggestions, please.

Welcome to DSG Mechatronic's replacement units.

One of my 5 Mechatronics replacements 2 did the same as you have here.
Mine would turn car off put in park. Restart car, then gear selection would work again. till about 10 - 30 minutes later. It did this again.

It keeps loosing it's "Basic Settings" it's a fault with the Unit. A DSG Reflash from VW or New Basic settings applied will last 1-2 weeks. then end up the exact same.
It's a Faulty Mechatronics unit.

Just going my all my problems I had with DSG on my car, Oh and the excuse they kept giving me.

No it locks you out of reverse ie you need to come to a complete standstill to engage that gear.

And they lied 2 me about rental car age the w@nkers
