Spoke to a mate from a garage where most my mates get their tyres and he's quoted me a few different options.

He came up with Lassa tyres?

Read online that they are really good and made my Bridgestone. Anyone had them, tried them?

My experiance in more than 20 years spending much time and brain about tyres is that
there is no premium quality on tyres made in countries like Romania, Turkey or China.

Go for first class rubber like Bridgestone, Conti, Dunlop, Michelin or Pirelli especially on
a higher powered car like the GTI.

No-names from Turkey will be heavy, less precise and much worse on wet roads I bet.

For an extra £3 a corner I can get the Vred Sessanta just not fitted but that's only £15 a corner at Just Tyres....so think I'll stay clear.

The Sessanta is ''mid quality'' and not in the league of Conti SC5P or Pirelli P Zero though,
but still much better than the Lassa particularly on wet. Go for them if you are more the
'cruiser' type driver and not the 'racer' and if you can't effort Conti or Pirelli.

I remember when Vredestein were a much overlooked budget brand that people would avoid, at present I have some cheapo non brand chinese tyres on my 335d as when my VMR wheels arrived from the states they were already fitted and only cost a extra 200 dollars so thought I would give them a try. Verdict is they are very very good, wanted to hate them and change them for some michelins but they have been brilliant in all conditions.

There is no reputable test anywhere supporting this thesis.

There is, 350bhp and 600 ft/lb rwd with traction fully off on a quiet indistrial estate with lots of roundabouts in the rain

I know it doesn't make any sense telling facts to people having their own view
based on subjectivity. Please don't misunderstand me. I'm in this matter for too
long to believe you can save money on tyres without making a huge compromise.

Took you advice Bruce......after reading reviews etc going to see STS Motorsport who are going to sort me out. Either Dunlop SP01, Falken 452 and some other options.....

As someone said before......should skimp on tyres as they are the only thing keeping you on the road.

As someone said before......should skimp on tyres as they are the only thing keeping you on the road. 

I have Falken 452's on my ED30 and I have now had 2 scary moments.

I also have them on my Touran Sport with no issues.

So they are a good tyre for non performance applications only in my opinion.

I have only got them on the ED30 because they came with the OEM wheels I bought.

I will probably go for the EVO tyre test winner the Continental Sport Contact 5 I think it was.

I always go for branded highly rated tyres, just spent £800 on tyres for the 135i, wouldn't skimp on cheap tyres personally. However I have been surprised by some budget brand tyres over the years and very dissaponted with some supposedly 'good' tyres. Take the dunlops I had on the golf for a while, awful grip in wet and  noisier than you could believe, constant droning noise at anything over 30mph. They were replaced with vred sessantas which were a good all-round tyre.

I have just removed 2 brand new (400 miles) Goodyear f1 assymetrics from the back of my 135i as they were utter rubbish, made the back end feel floaty and would lose lateral grip far too easily. They have now been replaced with some michelin ps3's and the difference is unbelievable.

So a well rated branded product doesn't mean that they will be great, tyres are a very subjective item to purchase and I think that the average motorist probably couldn't tell the difference between driving on a nangkwank ditchfinder and a semi slick track tyre.

Drove a car with some kwikfit own brand things on once in the wet, it was so bad that anything over 10mph would cause Lethal understeer! I always recommend that people buy the best that they can afford, and if you find that they are not suitable due to noise, ride quality, grip etc... Then go back to the supplier and ask for an alternative as a replacement.

PDT.. im surprised that you found the F1 Aysms to be rubbish, they seem to provide very good mid corner grip on the front of mine. Totally different cars though.

 I have had the f1 assyms on a few fwd cars and they have been brilliant, hence choosing them for the BMW. I thought that the lack of grip and floaty feeling may have been all in my head as I swapped to them from the runflats but the missus also noticed the floatyness of them and then she managed to get the car completely sideways on a roundabout with very little throttle and all stability controls on! The traction light would constantly be flashing as well, even with light-mid throttle the back end would squirm around a lot while the stability management would try and correct it.

Driving out of the tyre shop with the replacement michelins was a night and day difference, car feels planted and controllable and inspires confidence rather than the uncertainty that you would feel with the goodyears.
