Hi,
New to this site..some great info on it...
Anyway, I am due to drop my car into the mechanic to get it fixed..he's not sure what's causing the noise but I told him I researched it online and am pretty sure it's the timing chain and associated parts.
Unlike some info I have read here, the noise on my car can not be heard on start up, and then fades when the engine warms up..it's the exact opposite.
When I start it up, it sounds perfect..after about 10 mins, when the engine has warmed up, as soon as I stop the car in traffic, I can hear a ''knock knock knock'' type noise. It's not the light ticking noise the injectors make, but a heavier ,louder noise. I wouldn't describe it as a rattle though, but does sound like a milder version of a diesel.
On another site, I read that a guy had his sorted under warranty and got the timing chain, tensioner, a valve and the variator/adjuster (most expensive part) replaced and it solved the problem. I gave my mechanic the link to the site and he said he can change these parts too, costing close to a grand all in..
Does anyone know if all these parts need replacing? Or if even replacing them should fix my problem?
Anyone with a similar issue, that has had it resolved? If so, I 'd love some advice..supposed to be dropping it in soon, and don't have the cash to be replacing parts that may not need replacing.
Cheers
