Hi

Didn't know quite where to post this as I don't yet own a Golf GTi but with any luck that should change in the next 4-5 weeks.

Anyhow my question is this: I went to test drive a 2006 Golf GTi (56 reg) on Monday and it was a good ride but i was put off by the Service History which indicated that despite using the recommended Long Life Fully Synthetic oil for the first 2 services for every service since 2008 the car has been on semi synthetic oil.

I know that the semi synthetic oil isn't good for the car particularly where the turbo is concerned. Therefore i'm cautious that we are buying the car at the age where such a poor decision will have an impact (not likely now but potentially 2 or 3 years down the line) So therefore should i avoid this car because it has been receiving the wrong oil for the past 3 years?

Thanks for your help in advance  :happy2:

VW did use semi-synthetic oil with T&D servicing in the past so you have to wonder why there is now a directive from them to use only use longlife regardless of servicing regime.

If you intend to keep the car for awhile then I would be seriously concerned...
Without traction power is nothing!

Thanks for your reply Bacillus.

So to ask a slightly different question what do folks on here currently run on - semi or fully synthetic oil? And have you always stuck to this type for every service?

cheers

I used to run on semi synthetic, but now run on fully syntetic as my car doesnt drink it as much as it did semi synthetic :) and its not actualy that much more expensive :)
