Squeak on Start Up

Only noticed this today, while the engine is turning over / firing there is a what sounds like a belt squeaking for a second. It dissapears once the engine is running.

As I said not noticed this before and wonder if anyone else's car does it, normal or not, common fault?

I remember I has a Renault years ago that did this and it turned out the fan belt was too tight snapped wrapping iteslf around the timing belt pulley causing the timing belt to slip, bend valves and snap the cam, not good so just cautious when I here similar sounds.

if it happens for about 5-10 minutes then goes away as the car reaches temperature that will most def be the water pump!

^^^ I would normally agree but the starter motor does this! Would need to hear the noise. And as it goes away straight away then it points to that at the moment.

mine does this. been told it's the starter motor.

Mine was doing this until i had the cambelt and water pump changed last week.

Thanks for the replies guys, of course I'll be getting it checked out professionally the thread was about trying to guage a possible source. Btw its gone today, which means it gonna be hard to get a diagnosis if the issue ain't there when i take it in.

mines does this aswel, lets out a wee squeel when i start it up but have been told its the starter motor
