RNS 310, anyone familiar with them here?
« on: May 18, 2011, 05:55:08 am »
In case any of you have some experience of RNS 310s I have a quick question.
I have an RNS 510 (Morty supplied!!) which started off as a B unit. I've updated the firmware to v7 spec thanks to links on here and thanks to a member on here I have the full postcode search and speed camera POIs.
All's well there then!

So on to my question. I have a good friend who has taken delivery of a recent SEAT Leon with an RNS 310 unit factory fitted. I've not actually seen the unit in operation but I'm aware that the unit differs to the 510 in that there's no hard disc in the unit and the CD/DVD is required for using the nav.
You've probably guessed what I'm going to say now, but here goes: Will the v7 7 digit postcode with POIs disc I have had given to me work on the 310 as well as the 510?

I have an RNS310, and the answer to your question is simply no :(

The 310 is made by Balukpunk (sp) and not the usual manufacturer for the 510's and them alike. This meaning the software will NOT be cross compatible.

The only thing I have about the 310 is the fact I can only search for a house number and it;s street yes that's fine but just very long winded, I have been onto both VW and BP about it and neither of them know if they will eventually enable full postcode search, or even in this matter neither know if they will even release an update as such!

Let me know what version software/maps it comes with and I will check mine see if there is anything new as his car is brand new would just put my mind at ease that there is no updates.

Anyway hope this helps!

Simon

P.S 310 Can't take DVD's anyway so that wouldn't work ;)

Thanks Simon.
I feared as much, it would have been nice to help him out there as he uses his car for business stuff and quite often he is supplied with an address that doesn't have a building number but has a full postcode.
It seems such a joke that it's taken VAG so long to get the full postcode search on the RNS 510; Book a hotel or go on a website for a show and there's usually a postcode 'for sat nav use' but little other address details.

I'll try and find out what version he is running for you, although the car is not quite brand new, it was a dealer pre-reg'd one which he needed as he couldn't afford the 3 month wait time for a new build.

I've just purchased a 2010 Passat, which came with an RNS310 with V1 maps. This only supports 5 digits of postcodes, and then you have to find the street etc. If you upgrade to the latest v3 maps (which presumably the new car will have) you get full 7/8 digit postcode support.

I've just bought a brand new A4 with over £1600 of Sat Nav - Only built about 4 weeks ago and that doesn't do full postcodes either.  :stupid:

Can you confirm this? I have V1 maps and don't have 5 digit, rang VW and they cannot confirm there is V3 for the 310?
