About to collect my GOLF GTI DSG

Hello All
Im just about to collect my ( 2006 ) GOLF GTI DSG next week .
I feel i have found myself a real deal at the price im paying and its spec .
Winter pack , full leather interior , metal grey , disc changer , 5 door ( room for my 2 year olds childseat ) , , this car ticks all the boxes for me , a car i can live with day to day and also have a huge smile on my face at the same time !! and its been my dream car for years .
My only concern is the mileage 105,000 - it has one owner from new and a full vw service history .

My question is , any advice re servicing , which petrol to use , best tyres , using dsg ?

Is there any must have add-ons that complement the golfs drive & performance ( though to be honest id be happy just to keep the car as is ) .

At 43 , and finally about to own and drive the car ive always wanted , well to say im like a child on christmas eve says it all .

Any advice welcome please .

dsg needs servicing every 40,000
water pump + cambelt every 80k or 4 years
Get a service plan from VW, about £300 i think for 3services and a MOT, bargain.

There as masses of posts about tyre's everyones got their favorites, do a search for that.

DSG is awesome.

Additionally and in view of the mileage, I would want to know if the hpfp cam follower has ever been looked at/changed (not part of normal servicing) as its failure if undetected would require alot of money to put right.

Worth ringing a dealer with reg & VIN to check for any outstanding recalls (such as the recent coil pack) as well as getting the fixed price service as it's a good deal & includes MOTs. In general I think a well looked after car at this mileage isn't an issue. Regular oil changes & a full dealer history are desirable.

Most of all, enjoy it. They really are great cars & family friendly too. Take your time with DSG, it could take you a long time to feel comfortable with it (nearly a year for me).

Finally get on of us who have VCDS to reset your DSG gearbox when you take delivery. The DSG box 'learns' your driving style over time. A 'box reset will clear any previous learned data. Essential when you're buying second hand, as the box will have the previous driver's habits. Particularly useful if the last owner was a motorway cruiser with the box in auto. It's a simple process with a laptop, there's a guide on the forum, and any member near you will I'm sure do the necessary for you.
