Stage 2 + questions
« on: May 18, 2011, 05:56:38 pm »
Im planning on getting stage 2+ pretty soon on my gti k03, just wondering what bhp I'll be looking at, how much it will cost (already have revo stage 1) and also how will the standard chassis/ suspension cope with power, is it advisable to upgrade, if so, what to?
Cheers

Might be worth looking at the dyno map thread - has dyno output readings along with power mods for the car.

If upgrading power, always adviseable to upgrade handling. Coilovers and uprated brakes/pads at a min I'd imagine. There are so many options that it's better to have a read around what other people have chosen.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

I'm currently running stage 2+ on my GTI and making the leap from stage 1 is well worth it IMO. The performance gain feels as strong as the change from standard to stage 1 as the car just keeps on pulling hard. I'd say you'll be looking at the best part of about £2.5k for all the mods needed which includes stage 2+ remap, downpipe ( full TBE recommended ), HPFP, CAI. With that setup you should be making around 270-280bhp depending where you get it RR'd.

Then on top you need to look at chassis mods like suspension and obviously upgrading brakes at some point.

Hope this helps

Dave

Stage 1 to stage 2 is £50. Maybe it's the same for stage1 to 2+.
To be 100% certain just phone revo.

Regarding chassis, I would not be very happy with stage 2 power on standard chassis tbh.

I would say brakes, bottom engine mount, and then suspension

for brakes it depends on your budget really

alot of people put the r32 front brakes on, these are very capable but others have put porsche brakes or other big brake kits

That's a very good question. I am awaiting VWR to restock their big brake kit. I do believe a 330mm 4 pot kit at the front is adequate, but an AP or Brembo 4 pot kit is not much cheaper than VWR 352mm 6 pot kit. So I figured if they have been designed for the VW GTi and have adjusted piston sizes so no need to consider brake bias then it makes sense

I personally would not want R32 as they are monumentally heavy, a good size disc but still single pot and heavy...

Plenty of guys are way more knowledgeable on Big brakes than me. If I was a perfectionist I would go 6 pot brembo F and something like S3 rear, but very, very expensive

yeah with the calipers obviously just need different brake lines and splash guards
