Hi Everyone

Looking advice in using the DSG system , questions as below :

1. Driving in bumper to bumper traffic for 2or3 Miles ( this taking up to 30 minutes ! ) most nights , , do i just sit with position ' D ' and use the brake ? is this ok ?

2. Driving in ' D ' , can i shift to ' S ' while driving along or do you have to stop ?

3. Driving off from a hill start is the brake assist system effective ?

And any advice on day to day use of the DSG system is more than welcome .

If constantly moving then just leave in D, if stationary for a while best to pop it in Neutral as the temperature of the fluid around the clutch and in the actuator rise quickly when held in D on the brake (constantly ready on bite point of clutch)

Driving in D you can move to S or to manual or back and forth while in motion you dont need to be at stand still, all this does is changes the software map the DSG is using nothing physical is moved other than a gear shift when going from D to S as the gears will be lower for a given speed.  You should avoid going into N unless at a stand-still and the box should be allowed to coast down in gear until you come to a complete stand still.

The hill start was only included on later models earlier DSG cars dont have hill hold they will have an element of creep which will hold on certain hill gradients but otherwise handbrake or footbrake can be necessary.

You can also take over control of the gear box without shifting the lever across into tiptronic mode at any time by hitting the paddles this will put the box into manual unless you press and hold the up paddles (labbelled off) or until no further commands are received through the paddles for a period of time.

Manual mode with standard software will automatically shift up at the red line and shift down as you cruise to a stand still and will always insure that you are in the correct gear to avoid the engine knocking at low revs and high load, also the hardware kick down at the bottom of the throttle travel will still activate even in manual mode with standard software.
