5w30 castrol edge, then somthing like 501 or 507 means it's longlife I think...
Standard: Rear parking sensors, Parrot Bluetooth
Retro fitted: MFSW buttons, RCD510, Boot pop, Black Monza II, Xenons, Audi jacking points, open fog light grills.

Strange your main dealer had to tell you your oil needed topping up...

But why didn't they suggest / try & sell you a suitable oil in that case ?
Castrol Edge 5w30 will be fine and is readily available for about £10 a litre ( or cheaper).
It is VW507 spec which is Longlife but is better quality than non longlife & can be mixed with whatever you have in there now.

I was looking through the threads to find out about this myself. From what I gather the best advice is to just use Longlife oil (VW 504/507 spec) for best protection, such as Castrol Edge 5w30 as suggested. I saw 4 ltr bottles in ADSA for £30 or £36 (can't remember). As long as it says on the bottle it conforms to VW 504/507 spec you should be ok.

The wording you need is approved to VW504 standards.

All GTIs should be using longlife oil, but time and distance servicing.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.
