exhaust issues still??
« on: May 21, 2011, 07:08:12 pm »
hi guys
as some of you aware my car dropped into lip mode recently and ended up costing over 600 notes for throttle sensors-after it was reset by an independant-the exhaust management light came back on.
i went to a local vag workshop and he cleared the code,BUT saying he expected it to come back on as he thinks he was hearing the cat honeycomb stuff(my terminology not his lol) damaged inside- the code says the cat is working below effeciency and i was led to believe that was just cos i now have a 3"DP going into an r32 sports catback system.
can anyone help me out here- the light came back on 4hrs later

do i just need to go stage2 and it will clear?

or do i get an exhaust place to check out the system first?

or just both and give the bank manager a relapse?

Sorry mate but unless you post up the fault codes we'll all be just guessing...

this was the code thrown originally
p0420- cat effeciency below threshold-
i take that as the 3" DP but the vag guy says no it wouldnt affect it,he cleared it and then it came back on a few hours later.not had it checked since weds!
does that help?

The fault is the cat.  Its either broken down or is only 100 cell.  The fault is wont affect the car at all, its just there to let you know the cat isnt efficient.

A stage 2 map will have a lambda simulator that stops the fault code coming up.

It wont cause any problems unless the innards of the cat have come loose and shrunk as it can get stuck in the exhaust and cause a loss of power.

Milltek or similar DP would be cheaper than an OEM one I'd guess.

If it's new then you shouldn't be paying to replace it.
