Evening all,

Ive changed my RCD500 to RCD510 today and found that my Parrot ck3100 is no longer muting the radio and I can't hear the other person. They can hear me fine though. Ive tried resetting the Parrot with no luck. Im guessing Im gonna have to change one of the pin assignments on the back of the connector block? Anyone done this at all?

Thanks in advance.

With some googling it seems the pin assignments are different and need changing, phone mute and speakers.

I used AFAR dab aerial with SMB connection, and it works very well with DAB RCD 510 and cost me only £23

Have you got a link to what you got please? Is it combined AM/FM/DAB?

Probably an obvious question but what is required in terms of the CANBUS for this RCD300 to RCD510 swap?.

Just picked up a DAB 510 and it's going into my March 07 Golf, from what I can see it may need an upgrade on the CANBUS but how do you know for sure?

The aerial requires 12Vpower, but I think the RCD10 provides the power via the coaxial, so I didn’t connect the 12v power lead from the JVC aerial to anything.  I have great FM and DAB reception, but no longer have any AM reception, I don’t know if that is because the aerial is not getting enough power, or the splice.  If you are installing an RCD510 without DAB you shouldn't have this problem because you don't need to change the aerial and therefore your AM reception should be unchanged.  As I now have DAB it doesn't matter that AM doesn't work.

Only just noticed this post.  You are not getting AM because the JVC aerial is not capable of accepting power via the coaxial cable.  Thus your FM & DAB reception are not as good as they ought to  either.  For the HAL-2 to work properly, the power cable MUST be connected to +12V.  Thanks, dabonwheels

Hi, firstly id like to thank the op and contributors to this very helpful thread, its been invaluable to me.  I lost my original account on here so had to re-register  :stupid:

For what its worth, ive finally and successfully completed swapping my old RCD300 into a RCD510 DAB radio.I have a MK5 GTI 06 plate (uk)

I also used this amazing thread to follow step by step and have very little else to contribute except perhaps added confirmation that the Blaupunkt fm/am/dab fakra beesting/sharkfin combo aerial is indeed faultless and requires no 12v feed to it.Contrary to the supplied instructions in the pack that illustrates that a seperate ingnition fed 12v feed is required, the aerial indeed gets its power from the single coax fm wire (white fakra, black wire) supplied to the roof.

I found that DAB and AM reception flawless and uninterrupted at all times with the bee-sting, however also had sucess with DAB/AM without it and only the sharkfin.Of course this is subject to location, im in the North East of England. The FM is flawless either way due to the double aerial system thus uses the rear heater element regardless.

If anyone is interested ive listed my sources as of 2013 for parts for the job below;

Blaupunkt Dab aerial; 91 euros

****** add the 8m coax cable as I found it just right with only approx 1m slack at end); 22 euros

Twin fakra splitter; £8

Pre-coded Canbus Gateway; £85

Rcd 510 WITH*** DAB****
An example of current Ebay offerings is below;

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RCD-510-DAB-/281103593233?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item4173146f11

I carefully sourced my RCD DAB from a reliable Ebay importer from Europe , brand new with code and box for just £199, but he has no RCD DABs for sale at moment by looks of things, however here is a link to his site if needed and some become available; http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/vagtec_cz/m.html_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p3686

I coded my own Canbus purchased off Ebay as I have the Vagtech software, using the pre-coded and contacting seller will save you a headache and £240 I guess!!!!

Any questions/tips just pm me and ill try to help .
regards, John

P.s: my 06 GTI is basic old style MFD has no MFSW or AUX or Bluetooth so cant help with that side, and the RCD510 did not need extra coding to verify change of car, only the Canbus required re-coding!

Did anyone manage to get this working with an OEM aerial (sharkfin style).???

I have an oem 3c0035507ab (GPS+dab) and have plugged it into an rns510 dab, and in the hidden menu for DAB I'm only seeing the below:

Frequency:215.072
Q: Mute
Ant1: ACTIVE
BER: 4

I'd REALLY like to get this working with the OEM aerial, wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction ?

I'm debating going down to local VW and plugging in head unit to factory wired aerials to test it, but would like to know if anyone has any ideas if its points to faulty aerial or faulty RNS510 :(

Thanks,
Rich

Rich I don't mean to sound like a twunt, but have you tried tuning the radio?

I don't know what's on 215, but National DAB shows as 220 on mine. BBC is something like 225. With ANT 1 active and BER=4 I would expect you to get good quality reception.

Hi,

Just replaced my RCD300 with a 510 and as feared I have the dreaded battery drain issue. I'd like to contact Eddie-NL as he appears to be the go-to guy to sort out a new gateway but as I'm a noob I don't appear to be able to send him a PM?

Any help appreciated as I'd like to get it sorted this week!

cheers

Hi

Im new to this forum but just wanted to say how helpful this feed was. I recently swapped my rcd 300 over to the rcd 510 in my 06 gti and for some time i did struggle to get the right parts and info i needed, until i remembered about the forums.
I just want to say a big thanks to Eddie-NL who sorted me out with coded canbus and pointed me in the direction of this feed.

After reading up on the fitting of an RCD510 so much, by the time I actually bought one (£220 DAB version ) , it all went in quite fast. As my golf is a 2007 1.4 i found the gateway behind the cubby bin then behind the relays. Bought a new gateway from ebay for £35 , then thanks to Ess_Three it was coded , and i drove away a happy guy. the only problem I have now is the window mounted DAB aerial doesn't seem to be working only connected to the head unit. I am going to check the earth and see if it is properly earthed then lf not try and get the 12v supply connected up.

Saved myself around £50 by not buying a precoded, but if you can't get anyone to help code it just go for it.
