Service History Advise Required Please
« on: May 25, 2011, 03:58:22 pm »
Hi all, possibly found another candidate Edition 30, but I would like some help just checking the service history please?

I've been in contact with both the seller and the dealer where the car was sold brand new and seen for each of it's three services. I have gathered the following information from both parties so that with your help I can ensure the car has complete service history.

When speaking to F Cross VW and checking their invoice history they couldn't tell me exactly what spec oil was used but could tell me that for each service longlife oil was used.

Thanks

George

Is the question that your not sure what oil it has being run on and so wanting to know if it will be alright?  looks like it's regularly serviced whitch is good.

Also what has being ticked on the right hand side of the page? The toothed belt would be a good one as it's coming up 4 years it seems.

Well I did want to check that the correct oil had been used for each service but they couldn't get that much detail up when recalling the service history. I just wanted to make sure that the longlife oil matched the intervals either by date or mileage.

Thanks

What is the mileage interval for a cambelt? 40k or 60k? Apart from the regular oil service when should components like plugs, fuel filter etc be changed?

Thanks

From what i read longlife oil is the preferred oil to be used regardless of which service indicator is set at, T/D or longlife....

It's had long life oil ticked so that will mean 5w30 which is correct.

5w30 should be used regardless of service type on the GTI as I'm sure has already been pointed out, but some VW dealers are clueless. My car was on time and distance and had been serviced prior to me getting it at Halifax and they'd used 10W40. This was raised inanother thread as being quite common and someone even called VWUK to complain and got an ear full of BS as they didn't want to know

Well it was going well. I had arranged to view the car tomorrow (pending the result of this thread) so after I found out that the service history was tip top I was looking forward to going to view it, until I recieved an email this afternoon "Sorry buddy, the car is no longer for sale"  :sad1: This was the best example I had found so far, good enough for me to want to view the car with a deposit in my back pocket.

Yea that was Mako's car, I was interested in his car until I saw Teutonic_Tamer's post that stated the car had been serviced with engine oil suitable for pre PD diesel engines
