That's a good alternative to 5 axis CNC machines costing a million quid, with you TC......how does it know

With these facilities I'd have thought upping the valve sizes might have been upped a little bit, that said somebody's no doubt done the maths to see if it paid off.

Remember the Jaguar le man cars in the late eighties and nineties were only 2 valves per cylinder,the additional weight and complexity didn't warrant the extra 30BHP the 4v heads made.

Easy to get into diminishing returns quickly I guess, trick is to spend the money wisely for the best gains

Looking good Steve

The option is there to increase the valve size but their aim at present is to prove what is possible (and reliable) with the the standard valves in the reworked head. The valve seals are different but otherwise they are all as you would find in a normal TFSI head  :happy2:

The program they are using on the 5 axis machine is a result of proper flow bench testing by a specialist engine builder in the states. APR are also now investing in a flow bench so they can develop this even further too.

A GTX turbo is a possible next step to get the quicker spool up the GT28 I currently have is lacking.

I could watch those machines working all day long.  :pomppomp:

Does the engine need running in again with the head work.  :happy2:

APR are going to do the fun task of putting some off boost road miles on the rebuilt engine on the break-in oil, this way it can be calibrated tomorrow night so I can get back running the full fat map this time  :driver:

Id have thought a slightly slower spool up would help with traction.  Plus when your on track id imagine revs are never really low enough to require the turbo to spool up

Currently its coming on boost properly at 3600-3700 so it's still possible to drop to lower ranges on track and get a bit of lag. APR has a theory on using a smaller GTX2860  :smiley:

If a turbo spools faster, does that mean you'll make any more peak power or would that remain the same/similar?

When you go in to APR HQ next, i need you to pass on some subliminal messages to Keith for me to get him to sort out a flowed head for mine.

I think that would be the perfect turbo, nice low spool and even more on top than what you have now. Would make a beautiful power curve.

This is an awesome build. The porting and polishing would normally make the power peaky but I see that the standard valves are being used so that shouldnt be a problem. Porting and polishing doesnt give big gains in turbo applications like it does with normally aspirated engines but every little helps. :happy2:
