Cam follower tech bulletin - Before you go to the dealer, read this

This is the TSB for the cam follower on our cars.
The dealership is only supposed to replace them under warranty if the Cam follower is either broken through, or concave.
Here is a scan of the TSB

Bin a lot posted on this on an american forum i use.Do you think we will get a letter asking us to take them in to check for wear ???  :grin: :laugh:.

On my previous A3 2.0 TFSI (which was a company car and had 70k miles on it) I asked Huntingdon Audi to check for cam follower wear in accordance with this TSB and the cheeky feckers wanted to charge £230 to do it!!!

I was asking more out of curiosity to see if they were aware of the problems etc and they were obviously not interested hence the silly quote.

Can you get an uprated cam follower which doesn't wear out so quickly/or eradicates the issue?

so i fitted my HPFP on sunday myself as i was bored.

My cam follower is like new!! car is an 05 with 54k miles on the clock so its the first version of the follower and there is nothing wrongwith it, ive been mapped since 16k miles aswell.

Make's me think its all scaremongering!

took 2 hours and was actually very easy to do.  :smiley:

Its my feeling that this is a much smaller problem here than over the pond.  Probably due to the poor quality oils they use in the US.

As I've repeatedly stated - yankie spec 502.00 oils are shyte - and it is these 'yankie' originated attitudes and issues which are the cause of many alleged problems on VAG engines . . . . worn HPFP cam followers, 1.8 20vT sludge, worn PD camshafts - all yankie probs by adamantly refusing to use the correct VW oil specs.

Joe, I presume you've always used Castrol Edge?  If so, this vindicates my claim that Castrol is considerably better than even 504.00 yankie brews (<cough>Mobil 1<cough>).

I'm sorry to dig up this ancient thread but I need to clarify something.

Is this an issue that VW recognize and replace under warranty regardless or is it just something covered by the warranty when you buy the car?

anyone in the forum local to help fix her? Would save you a fortune rather then dealer hourly rates?

Fuel pump is relatively easy for someone that's used spanners b4..

Not sure. They can't even confirm thats the issue at the moment but the technician said it will likely need a new camshaft!
