Hello all.

I am a Lotus Elise 111R owner and am about to have an engine conversion done as my 2zz Toyota engine has expired (long story). We have sourced an Edition 30 Golf engine with 26k miles from a 2007 registered black Golf. I saw a thread on here regarding an Edition 30 Register and wondered whether, with the engine number, there is any chance I could trace the history of the engine/car on here?

Has anyone written off their Black Ed30 Golf recently?

It will be a pretty mental car once finished- 850kg car with 300+ bhp with all that torque  :driver:

First off, welcome along and thanks for the post! Your sure to have a pretty mental car in the future ;)

I am sure it will be possible, not with the register we keep, more like someone who can run the engine code thru the parts software VW use.

Someone will be along soon I'm sure with better info but welcome along ;)

My mate has an Ed 30 powered Lotus Elise, absolutey mental car.
Didn't know much about the history of the engine or running gear but It was on the cover of redline the other week

The conversion was carried out by autograph vehicle tuners

Funny you should mention your mate- I have spoken to Martin before about his conversion in his Elise- that is one hell of a car. The 2.0T FSI is a relatively new engine option to the Elise/Exige community who have tended to use Hondas, Duratecs or Audi 1.8T engines. Naturally the ability to get such huge power outputs from the 2.0T is what makes it attractive but they are a lot more expensive!

I might try and get the VRN of the car the engine came out of- possibly the easier way to trace the original owner.

On a more general note- from what I can see, tuning 2.0T FSI engines to over 300bhp is fairly commonplace/popular. What changes if any are made to engine internals/cooling etc. to take the extra power? I know the Ed30 engine has a few uprated components but are there any mandatory upgrades that I should be considering? Also what kind of torque figures are these tuned units producing?

Welcome, 300ish bhp is achievable with a stg1 software upgrade with about 320/330ftlbs with no other mods, maybe the later DV would be advisable. With regards to the cooling etc everything is fine in the Golf set-up I suppose it depends where the intercooler/intake etc is to be mounted in the Elise.

p.s my pal runs an Elise 111 and has invited me to Anglesey on a trackday soon, which is very nice of him :smiley:

That torque figure is fantastic compared to the Toyota unit where anything over 200ftlbs would melt the gearbox! You have to rev the balls off the 2zz engine which is fun on track but tiring on the road. Excuse my ignorance- what is a DV?

I think we are looking at a pro alloy intercooler but you are right in saying that the location is key as there is not a huge amount of space available in the engine bay.

Anglesey is a great track- very twisty and suits the Elise well.

The DV is the diverter valve, its a factory fit electronic dump valve basically, the early cars had a rubber diaphram type which weren't the most reliable and were liable to split espcially when mapped, VAG made an updated piston type which seams to be much better, I've been running one for 20K on Stg 2+ ( which would be a giggle in an Elise). They aren't expensive 45quidish from the dealer and are a doddle to change, I'll dig you the part number out if you like.

Yes, Anglesey is a lovely track, been there a couple of times in the S3 :smiley:

It isnt a dump valve on the FSI engine - its a diverter valve that recircs used boost back into the intake. It does make a bit of noise if theres enough unused boost, but nothing like an atmospheric DV
