I guess the down side is that the dust shield is to big for the 312mm GTI brakes. Holger, did you install the dust shield on your car?

I just took my front bumper off the car to align the Kerscher fenders properly (the guys in the service did not take their time to do this) and I noticed that it would be difficult to have brake cooling from the front fog grills.
So I think I will also buy the TTRS vents and hope they will work  :happy2:.

No, I don't have no dust shields any more.  :innocent:

Yes, if you want it as heat protection you'd need to cut most of it down.

Some photos with my TTRS brake vents:

And I must say I am really curious to see if they have any effect.

Really worth removing the dust shields if you use these with the standard shields.  They block off too much air.  I don't run any at all and you won't get any issues with ball joints getting hot unless you do a endurance races.

Well guys, here is what I think...
The brake vents redirect some of the air that is going above and below the TT arm (or the normal arm). This air is redirected upwards into the wheel arches and NOT towards the brakes/discs. So it makes no sense to remove the dust shields especially because my car is a daily drive.
But, the larger amount of air going into the wheel arches creates a higher pressure in the wheel arches. Because to the outside of the care the pressure is lower and since air is always traveling from areas of high pressure to low pressure, the brake vents might just make sense.
If these are not enough I will install some brake vents taking the air from the front bumper (similar to NeilM). If this is the case I might consider removing the dust shields.
Guys, please correct me if I am mistaking in my judgement.

Rex, a little off current subject of vents, but I thought you had the TT arms? Shouldn't the ball joints be on top of the arms?

Edit: Sorry just realised you have regular hubs not the S3   :ashamed:

The way my TT arms are fitted is the way they are fitted on the TT (with the ball joints below the arms.
For the guys that have the S3 hub my fitment is impossible so they put the ball joint above the arms just like the normal ball joint.

Here is how the TT has the ball joint mounted and how I mounted mine:

Edit: Sorry mate, I saw your Edit after I posted my answer...
