I have a border terrier (hair ball) and an English bull terrier (needle hairs) and used to have a right game getting the hair out, have since bought a hammock that goes in the back seat and they belt in to the seatbelt connectors, also leather seats makes the hair easy to remove, but I found that a dog hair brush is also a good thing, or a roller (like you get for suits)
Also would not recommend you drive around with the dog in the footwell, not the safest place especially if you had an accident, boot cage, or seatbelt clips are the safest.
