Edition 30 brakes
« on: May 30, 2011, 07:37:38 pm »
I'm new to the foum but joined after purchasing a BMP editon 30 2 weeks ago. Already spent hours and hours checking out topics for inspiration. Anyway the 4th year service is due along with the MOT and I reckon the brakes will fail. I'm looking to find decently priced discs and pads. Now after searching on here and other forums I believe that the Edtion 30 brakes are identical to the standard MKV GTI being 312mm up front and 286mm at the back.

Can anyone recommend any discs and pads? Looking to spend as little as possible at the moment. I have seen Mintext discs and pads on the bay but i'm not 100% sure if these are the right ones. Can anyone confirm this for me http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GOLF-MK5-2-0GTI-04-FRONT-REAR-MINTEX-BRAKE-DISCS-PAD-/300526593518?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item45f8c7e5ee

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

The description and the pictures on the ebay link do appear to be the correct ones for the ED30  :happy2:

4th year service can be a boggy - has the cam belt been done, what is the mileage? DSG or manual?

Thanks for the help chaps. Don't really want to upgrade the brakes at this stage so gonna stick with the standard set up for now.

Cars done 29K, manual and no the cambelt hasn't been done yet. Going to go for the VW 2 year service plan as that seems like a good deal at £349. Just wondering though it says that the service plan is 2 years and you get free MOTs for the duration of the plan so I was thinking of being cheeky and trying to squeeze 3 MOTs out of them in 2 years. I can imagine they would argue but I can't see anywhere where it states the number of MOTs permitted. Simply says free MOTs for duration of service plan so if the plan is 730 days I can squeeze the third one in before thats up  :happy2:

DOMT I got your PM via email and thanks for the offer but i'm in Manchester so miles away from you. Can't read or access my PMs so I guess thats due to me being a new member with low posts. Think I missed out of some pescaras for sale on here due to not being able to post of the topic as well  :sad1:

Yeah I did used to have a black 25th anniversary edition. Sold it last week. Want to get this one in mint condition ideally. Going to order 4 new michelins tomorrow, credit card is taking some hits this month.

You have silver ani don't you and I believe your looking to move over to the edition 30 too? (Sure I read a post of yours recently)

Got the new brakes fitted all round today. I know I need to bed them in and take it easy with the braking for the time being but whats the process for this and for how long? Also got my MOT coming up in 2 weeks, will the fact that they are brand new brakes cause any issues?

:happy2: Yep, indeed after 5 years of the anni, im looking for an ED30, however finding a decent one is hard at the moment, guess im just picky as im wanting a high spec, xenons, highline, MFSW... not to bothered by colour, but least favourite is black.

Any suggestions of places to look, apart from the norm ie trader, pistonheads...PM me so as not to fill up your post. cheers
