unlucky
« on: June 07, 2011, 07:37:35 pm »
6 weeks ago haveing rushed into buying an o6 gti i am painfully regretting it,paid over 8 grand for it from a dealer in leicster, tyers were a bit borderline which he pointed out,so 4 new tyers, replaced passenger rear wheel bearing, intermittant missfire no 4,replaced all coil packs and plugs and maf still the same around 2500 rpm other wise car is fine, recently discovered rear drivers side wheel arch badly corroded and botched paint repair, reading some of the posts on here it could be all sorts, cant be dv as there is plenty of boost in the rest of the rev range, hpfp who knows i certainly couldnt afford to give vw an open ended ticket,so does any one think i should contact the dealer 1 months warrenty given which has expired, will it pass an mot with this flat spot as i am prepared to drive it and see if the fault developes so as to pinpoint it more accuratly, pretty desperado and dont know what to do

Feel for you mate. I'd certainly be paying them a visit as it seems you have nothing to loose and everything to gain. It won't do there reputation any good if went to the local papers or something so give them a try.

Unless its changed in the last 6 months trading standards say if you buy from a dealer it is 3 months or 3000miles, you have a very strong claim even if they state its only a 1 month warranty id go see the dealer, talk to him if he says sorry mate its out of warranty then say you will be speaking to trading standards bet he gets it sorted for you mate

8 grand for a 06 gti is cheap...how many miles? If they sold it for 8 they bought it for less than 7 so it can't have been very good , or am i being unreasonable. If it only came with a months warranty most people would have walked away. When did the problems start? I would go back and ask for your money back or you will go to trading standards. The car you bought does not conform to the usual meaning of buying a car from a dealer , it is not fit for purpose. Speak to Citizens advice perhaps. If a dealer only gives 1 month warranty then they are the lowest of the low as far as reputation is concerned so i expect them to tell you to Foxtrot Oscar.
Good Luck

yes paid 8750. 80 thou.i new the tyers were border line.engin didnt start playin up til after 5 weeks as for the bodywork it just seems worse everytime i look at it.the car was a 1 owner full history.wrote a nice letter to the previous owne to ask why he sold it and where hopefully he will give me some anwsers.it he certainly was no enthusiast.it may well be a genuine fault and a set of circumstances we shall see aftercontacting the dealer today.the day i picked it up i must have had rose tinted glasses on

We all make mistakes , some more costly than others. Hopefully you get the matter sorted and not too expensive for you.  Get the dodgy bodywork done professionally as this is the most visual and expensive. Once its done you will start to feel better about the car , you may have to hang onto the car longer than you had anticipated as you will want to get back the money you have spent on it by not upgrading it when you had intended. You will grow to like the car the more you drive it when it is not playing up.

How does the old saying go? "Buy in haste, repent at leisure." Still feel for you though, see what rights you have legally then see where to go from there.

spoke to the dealer some light at the end of the tunnel at least,he has agreed to give me 500 pounds towards repairs, which just about covers it so far, went to a pro body shop and they said its an easy straight forward job to do the rear arch,as for the flat spot missfire am like i said just gonna live with it for the mo and see how it developes,on a good note i spoke to vw vindis in camebridge today and last oct it has had cambelt water pump and new front discs and pads,so at least that is one major expense to not have to worry about, and like i have said most people wouldnt know there was anything wrong with the car, maybe thats why i didnt pick up on it wen i got it,so just gonna drive it i had already planned to put new alloys on it anyway and a few other mods,so thanks for your replys guys

Glad to hear you are getting a good contribution from the dealer! :happy2:
Hopefully this will all seem like a minor hiccup in months to come when you can finally enjoy the car properly! :happy2:

Glad its gone the right way for you mate. Would it still not be worth them looking at the misfire whilst you are in negotiations? I don't mean to be negative but if it develops into something costly then it might be better to get it looked at now by the dealer and ask for it resolving for free or another GOOD contribution at least.

yes maybe however i think all the other issues with the car have made the engine fault seem massive,i am sure it is a minor thing as i went on holiday to the new forest and drove 870 miles average mpg 38 and the car hardly missed a beat, many moons ago a mate of mine had a series 2 rst which wouldnt start, and i jest you not 6 weeks at the dealer and a final bill of 1700 reduced on complaint to 1300 he got the car back and it was only worth 5000 tops so am a bit concerned about handing it over to a vw main ,i mite consult a local garage with lower labour rates with vagcom and maybe agree a top price of diagnosis, vagcom has al;ready pointed out missfire on no 4 cylinder but coilpack change and spark plug havnt altered the fault

See if they can provide you with a printout of the work done, might be worth a punt, nice to have if you sell on in the future!
