Thank god for warrantys
« on: June 09, 2011, 12:48:52 pm »
Glad I bought my car from a main dealer with 12 months warranty 2 months back.
Have been back a few times. Corroded vw badge replaced. Drivers window not closing properly. Divertor valve replaced.( JKM noticed this as I was about to get it remapped) Seat electrics stopped working.
Now have a few more probs. Window has gone wrong again, I have to shut it twice as it automatically opens again when I close it. The fan comes on 20 secs after I start it up so its trying to cool down and cold engine . And now when I boot it above 5000 rpm it goes into kangaroo mode, jerking . JKM advise me that’s its prob coil packs or spark plugs. So its off to JKM to have the map reversed to stock and then booked into VW again. Then when fixed back to JKM to have the map re installed.

I have spent so much time at VW poole and now I have to go to JKM twice more. So that’s 4 visits to JKM instead of 1 and atleast 5 visits to VW in Poole.

Now am I just unlucky or am I going to get probs all the time? I live In Bournemouth weekends and Essex week days now so I will need a courtesy car for a week which VW are providing. If I have to go back again after this stuff is done I am considering just pxing it with something else at VW as I have never know a car like it. My 911 went back once in 5 years for warranty work, A MAF sensor. VW warranty price is a bargain though and if I do keep car is it possible to renew it?

cheers

Man, sounds like you've got your monies worth from the warranty company there  :happy2:

My 07 ED30 has been back a few times under warranty and it's just coming up to be renewed, so I am now considering taking a further 12 months extended warranty with VW but not sure how much this will be as yet?

Am seriously considering it for peace of mind though.

Anyway know how much the extended warranties are and if it's worth the money?

I had several warranty issues with my car just before its 3 year warranty ran out, so decided to take out the VW extended warranty just in case.  Paid £214 for comprehensive cover, up to 15000 miles a year, and RAC Roadside Assist.  Thought it was a decent price, and much cheaper than Warranty Direct, etc.

Now my issue is nothings gone wrong with the car and than the key deciding to stop working on Tuesday night, but still nice to have piece of mind that most things are covered if it does.

214 sounds great. I noticed my leather seat bolster is torn also, I will ask them about this as only had car two months.

I just got a quote from VW for Comprehensive warranty, unlimited mileage and roadside assistance for £403? Even with 15000 miles per year it was still £378!!  Sounds very expensive compared with your £214?  Do you have an excess with yours?  If I take a £250xs then it comes down to £278 with the unlimited mileage.

Yes, my extended warranty is now about to expire so looking to take another 12 months.

Debating whether it's worth the cost though!

No excess on mine, but should have pointed out that my car is a GT Sport TSI, not a GTI, hence the price difference I would imagine!
