Slight Misfire On Idle
« on: June 08, 2011, 07:08:49 pm »
Since i have owned the car i have noticed a slight misfire on idle. Does not effect performance but just wondering what could be causing the issue.

Plugs were changed as part of 4th year service

coil packs??

Get it logged with vcds to show what cylinder misfire is occuring and swap the coil pack from a cylinder that's not misfiring. If the misfire follows the "bad"coil pack then buy a new one.

If it's not the coil pack...then what else should one check?

Could be a faulty injector if plugs and coil packs are ok.

will a misfire always throw up a light on the dash?

I seem to have a slight stutter sometimes on acceleration, coilpacks have just been replaced under recall and I see from the log book the plugs could do with being replaced.... but other than some slight stuttering there are no warning lights on the dash?

this seems to be a common occurance at the moment alot with those that have just had their CP's replaced under recall???

I've just changed all  4 coilpacks as I had a misfire on cyl3

Still spluttered a bit under load on the way home from work last night
and hiccup'd on idle still.

Plugs were only changed a few thousand miles ago.  It's chewing through plugs!
Ordering another set today, bloody thing  :fighting:

Cyl4 continues to get alot of moisture in the 'coilpack hole'

If it's not the coil pack...then what else should one check?

There are more things that could cause it and i've had all of these

* Do you still have a diaphragm-type diverter valve?  Change for piston-type 'Revision D' valve, part 06H 145 710 D?
* You've changed the coils - have you changed the sparkies?
* When was the last time you gave your car an 'Italian tune up'?
* Using the correct grade of fuel? 98+ RON?
* Is it 'hunting' for revs, i.e. dropping to 600, then peaking up to 1,500-2,000 rpm?  PCV might be kaput...

Hope you get it fixed.

I wouldn't use the word 'thrashing'...    how about...  'sustained sporty driving', as the VW sales brochures call it!
