Stealership cambelt work
« on: June 09, 2011, 10:30:03 am »
Sorry to start yet another cam follower question  :ashamed:  but I want to be clear even after searching.

Ed30 done just over 60k and its in for a cambelt / tensioner change at a dealership soon. I asked whether they check the follower as part of the work and of course they dont, so I assume its worth asking them to check it. If I do, do you know if they will charge this as extra work - again, I assume its worth paying? I forgot to ask about the bolt as well which from previous threads must be changed but is not part of the kit. Thanks for help  :happy2:

Just looked at mine, it had done 57k miles and very little wear..

Only seems to be more of an issue on the Early GTi AXX engines and not the Ed30 BYD engine .

Felix, the cam follower isn't visible or changeable by doing the cambelt, the cam follower sits behind the HPFP on the top right side of the engine so it would be extra work to remove HPFP and remove follower and if they are checking you might as well get them to replace it as a matter of course since the part itself is £20.  But undoubtedly they will charge you extra.

Oh oh, ive got a 05 plate AXX engine with 54k on it. Only had it for about 6 weeks so next jobs got to be cambelt and water pump. Anybody know if its more difficult to change than the golf mk4 tdi's as i have a guy that works for Audi that will come to the house and change it for probably £150 cheaper. He's changed 3 cambelts for me in the past, just sticks it on his mobile ramps and does his business. Is it the same procedure, engine partially out etc?
