Key Query
« on: June 08, 2011, 02:59:36 pm »
Okay, so got in the car last night to drive home and no problems, car opened as usual with the unlock button on the key. Got home, tried to lock the car with the lock button and nothing. Red light still flashed on the key, but doors would not lock. Tried the unlock and boot buttons too but still nothing.  I'm thinking its the key battery need replacing but would the red light still flash if it was flat?

If it is the battery, which one do I need to get hold of and how quickly do I need to change it over?

Thanks!

What happens if you try using the second key (assuming you were supplied with two)?

Second key works as normal, so I don't think there's a problem there.  Just can't figure out why the light flashes on the first key, but the car won't open.

Cheers... will try that tomorrow.  Don't suppose you know which battery I need?  And how quickly do I need to swap it over?  I've read things about keys losing their coding if the battery is out for too long.

You need a CR2032 battery.

Here's how to open up the fob, http://www.riskin.org/vwkey/

Have now changed the battery, but still no joy.  The LED on the key flashes, but the car won't lock/unlock.  Key still works in the ignition though, so I am stumped.

Any other suggestions welcome!

You may need to repair it to the car.

Instructions are in the Owners Manual

All sorted - just needed synchronising as per the Owner's Manual.  Press the unlock button on the fob, then unlock the door within one minute and BINGO, key works properly again!
