That is just too good to be true. Will look into it but maybe a bit too much effort at this stage. Actually just got a phone call half an hour ago and the guy said the car I may have purchased has been bought. Aaaagghhh

I'm 32, NI based, one small accident last year but 9 years no claims and insured my 05 GTI for around the £750 mark.

Try Oakland insurance in Larne - work hard to get you something good.  My policy is with aviva.

You can register online.  From memory its about £100.  Then join your local club for a small fee and observed runs and prep for test is usually free - its part of the club ethos to improve driving skills.  Once your passed the test you may want to become an observer yourself to give something back - not obliged though!

I feared the worst with my renewal this year but its just come through at £510 with elephant. Mods declared and 29 with only 3 years no claims.  Must have a good post code i suppose?!

If your postcode is outside of Northern Ireland, it's a good postcode. Boy are we ripped off!

I'm 33 and can insure an 06 GTI for £550 though so all is not lost.. try one of those price comparison sites comparethemeerkatmarket.com worked best for me and for the past 3 years Admiral have given the best quote.

Yep -= register on-line - looks like it's now £139 (http://www.iam.org.uk/do_you_want_to_be_a_better_car_driver_/doyouwanttobeabettercardriver.html) - think I got it for around £78 a couple years ago. No charge for observed runs (I had around 6 before my test) and no charge for the 1 hour plus final test with a serving traffic cop. Really enjoyed the experience and each time I went out with the observer then it lasted about an hour. Amazing how much you can still learn regardless of how good a driver you think you already are.

I am 41, >9 years no-claims and live in a low crime and nice part of Scotland, both my wife and I (she's also on the policy) are company directors, so probably pretty low overall on their risk register, hence the price.

Unfortunately NI isn't great for insurance! However your quotes do seem a bit excessive.

I'm 23 with 3yrs no claims and insured on my 06 GTI with directline for about £1300. I'm going to renew with Greenlight next month. A previous quote from them was in the region of £1100 for me. So I would imagine would be considerably less for you, given your age and experience.

My younger brother got a great quote through HIC for a modified 2.0TDI passat - with wheels, coilovers, stereo, xenons and everything else declared. They may be worth a try also.

you could maybe try tesco car insurance mate, im 23 and have 6 years no claims and iv got my gti dsg for 700

£1100? Pfft! Stop complaining. I moved to Brum and my premium went up to £2400! Because I'd moved part way through the policy, I had to suck it up and pay it. They wanted £3000 for the following year. That was directline.

Went for a mod-friendly company - both Skyinsurance and Brentacre wanted ~£700 . Unfortunately renewal this year is £840. Will see if I can phone around.
