Ohlins thrown on and CV boot replacement today

Oooooh, nobody likes dirty balls.

Much better!  Weird OEM plastic boots.  I thought they were rubber!

Mmmm, tasty.

Tasty goods out back too

Spot on ride height.  The Ohlins aren't for slamming  :happy2:

Looks great Pudding - that's a spot on ride height if I may say so. Didn't want slammed myself either and found the VWR springs were perfect. Ohlins though!  They have only ever had an amazing write up whenever I have read about them. Look forward to hearing your thoughts about them...!

Finally got the gfb dv+ installed, my rev g was fine with no tears.
Can't feel any difference at all....what's the hype about? Least I didn't pay full price for it

Have you tried to WOT after partial throttle pressure? The engine responsiveness is much better and it's a noticeable improvement. Go drive on a canyon road and try to remember how your throttle response was before.
Interestingly enough, I took out my DV+ and refitted my old revision D OEM last week and it drives better!
I honestly can't feel a difference....
I do hear a squeaky noise when I press the throttle, might be the piston? Wasn't there with the g, Is this normal?

Will change to alloy wishbones with new ball bearings and super pro anti lift kit at the same time.. Never done any of this work, so would have been nice with a guy who know the best way hehe.

Would you tighten the bolt to compress the spring more than I've done now or better to wait when it on the car?

Just take your time and have your phone handy for looking up torque specs and instructions.  It's like Lego to me, but it can be scary at first if you haven't done it before.

Which bolt? You mean the pinch bolt on the strut that clamps the damper into the hub?  It's easier to bolt the strut to the car first, and then fit the hub from underneath, then it's 70nm + 90 degrees.

Ohlins preset the ride height for you and it feels spot on.  Plenty of travel. You can go up to factory height, but to me that looks and feels perfect.  The VWR is definitely lower than that, so -20mm I think isn't quite true. More like -30 to -40 I'd say.

I've only driven 3 miles on the Ohlins so far and I was grinning like a school boy the whole way.  That's when you know you've spent wisely  :happy2:   I know £2K is a ridiculous sum for suspension, but they are worth every penny.  I will do some damper tweaks and get some miles on it and then do a review  :happy2:

They do have a little mouse squeak when you let off on part throttle, all normal.   I'm the same mate, can't really feel any difference between rev D and GFB DV+.   Both are better than rev G though, weirdly. Funny engines these!

The problem that people share about the rev D diverter valve is that after some use it starts to leak boost pressure. At 1st you might not notice any difference but it will push more the turbo to meet the required boost pressure. The GFB DV+ shuts the air recirculation fast, doesn't leak boost and holds pressure when releasing the throttle which makes it quick for the turbo to recover the required boost pressure if the throttle is pressed fast enough.

People who aren't happy with it can sell it and make someone else happy, I guess.

Yep more like mouse squeak
Had a Rev D on the car originally which I replaced with the G...might throw the D back on to see

Didn't do much today.. Placed an order at Vagbremtechnic and also a small order at VW for new dogbone, b-pillar plastic along with new left side engine mount.

Also ordered some sockets that hopefully will arrive before the weekend, so I can get all the hubs, wishbones, struts, springs and alot more changed :)

The next one will likely give you more life-span as the hpfp-piston's spring tends to weaken over time. Good catch...what was your miles at time of service? Just helped a local having just purchased an 08 A4 with 180k miles on it. I looked at the service records showing no cam follower service done. I told him his CF is most likely shot. He found it to be true as well as the intake cam and hpfp piston. He's in the process of replacing all the bits now

Oil selection is big...was using Dealer recommended Castrol 5w40-full syn for years and having to replace my CF in upgraded hpfp every 10k miles. Switched to German LiquiMoly 5w40 full syn and now get 20k miles between CF replacements.

Rossimac Fixed a lot of canbus-gateway faults (not coded just right) fixed and enabled cruise control for me,

Except my cruise control is working the same as a mk6 golf, polo6R etc as in the green light comes on when it's enabled rather than stays on all the time. We don't know quite how it happened

Also lost volume control from my mfsw on my rns315 if anyone has any ideas on how to to fix it?

It's all a bit strange really, but I've been doing back to back tests of revision D, revision G and GFB DV+.   The D and G are new.   DV+ I've had a couple of years.

I've done a week of D and everything seemed OK.  I've just put G in tonight and will give it a week's testing.

One thing I did notice is a wear ridge on the diverter housing.  I think that has come from 2+ years of the DV+ as it has a much stronger spring than the OEM valves.

Perhaps could causing a slight leak?  I might order a new housing from VW as I don't like the look of that to be honest.  There was also a video on the Facebook group showing a leaking DV+, so I don't think they are all they're cracked up to be in the long term.

http://www.myturbodiesel.com/wiki/rns510-rns315-gps-or-rcd510-installation-in-a-mk5-vw/

In there it states that RNS315 doesn't work with our RED MFD and MFSW:

Quote
CAUTION: the RNS315 head unit will work fine in any mk5 or mk6 car. However, because the RNS315 only came in cars with the white instrument cluster, the steering wheel buttons and MFD menu options will not work if you have a red instrument cluster. The head unit will otherwise work fine by itself. If you have a white instrument cluster everything should work. This is because the RNS315 only came in cars that used BAP communications which was in white instrument cluster cars. The other radios were also available in cars that used DDP communications which affects the steering wheel and MFD display.

Time to buy a white instrument cluster, eh?

I'm at 57k, and likewise I had no evidence it had been changed before, so thought i better do it. Glad I did! I will bear oil choice in mind when it's time for a change, but i'm on a standard fuel pump so i'm hoping to get a bit longer out of the CF!
