Today I dropped my car off to VW for investigation, only had it a month (private sale with rac pre-purchase check ok) and is only drivable at below 2k revs/40mph or goes into limp mode.

I have a thread here http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,56394.0.html if ANYONE has had anything similar happen or know anything that might help, please?!?

Without reading the error codes with vcds it could be anything ;[
I've this happen any time something has gone bad from;
Throttle pedal ass'y.
Throttle body ass'y
sudden leak in the turbo plumbing
a bad coil
a bad cam follower
bad pcv
bad pcv rear breather tube
and on and on...Limp mode happens with these supposedly to protect the engine from further failure.

Having the error read will reveal your problems. Good luck

Been a bit busy over the last couple of weeks. I fitted my r32 brakes so the gti actually stops now, led interior lights, brought some new bbs wheels and i have finally finished my custom sub box.

Now I feel a bit poor. :sad1:

Fitted the polo DAB aerial I bought from Eddie the other week to replace the cheap windscreen version I had. So far reception is excellent - see how it is with more use  :happy2:
VCDS cable HEX-USB+CAN. New but can do the basics including coding

Scott the difference is night and day, s3 brakes just done on mine, heavier brakes compared to gti but as i have no intention of tracking my car the conversion is well worth doing, pulls the gti up on its nose no matter how big the speeds are,and upto present no sign of the dredded brake fade lmao AWESOME mod and calipers look huge

Dougie :happy2:

One day.... When your stock brakes fade and nearly kill you, you will see the Very important need to uprate your brakes

Even as standard, the GTI 200bhp is too much power for the standard brakes.

ANY more power with standard brakes is just plain dangerous IMO.  :surprised:

S3/R32 brakes are different story all together. Fantastic upgrade for Fast road use, but if you are thinking multiple Track days.... You will need to re-think once again

Sounds good mate. I've got a set I'm currently cleaning up ready to go on. Won't be till next year though as my 16" winters won't fit and the 17's I have got don't have winter tyres on yet. Can't wait to get them on.

Never had a problem with my standard brakes in 7 years and that includes stopping at autobahn speeds! Still on first set of pads and discs too!

No probs with brakes here either on 'fast road' or driving on track (as long as you are sensible ofc).

Treated the e30 to some new rear brake pads. Took far longer to do than it should as the piston was difficult to wind in on both sides
