We took another trip up to the dealer to collect my high level rear brake light.

While I was there, I took the opportunity to discuss my recent service with the service manager as I had concerns that the tech had just went on a tick box spree, rather than actually doing some of the service. The thing that highlighted it to me was the fact that they are supposed to check all interior lights including the glove box. Well my glove box light hasn't worked for a couple of months when I was attempting the LED conversion and the tech had ticked it off to be all fine....!

All I did was point out to him that it undermines my confidence in the service as what else have they just ticked off without checking? Anyway, there wasn't much he could do/say other than promise to have a word with the tech in question. It was semi worth it, as I got this as a gesture of goodwill. Only problem is, it's not FST.

should it not be 5w-30 oil?

If that's what vw used during the service then it's good to use the same grade for topping up

Doesn't matter if it's FST or not, but should be 5W-30 Longlife III VW504 approved.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Despite the manual stating 502? I'm not wanting this to turn into another oil debate but its been running fine on 5w40 since I bought it.

The FST was tongue in cheek.

I didnt mean to open up oil wars either, the real isssue is the conflicting information provided by the dealers.

Had some good driving in Wales. There are some fun roads! Just wish my DV hadn't started to play up just to coincide with my few days here!

 5W40 is recommended for use here in the US.
Viscosity of 30 simply leaves less-(talking micro or nanometers here) of a coating between the moving/connected internals than 40 viscosity does.
So it's a choice, not condemnation for whichever you choose. One frees up motion while another provides a bit more protection.

The issue is now bedded, yes? :sleepy:

Picked up a random-orbit polisher for $40usd.

Oh, and spun the tires for 100ft +/- due to boredom.

Fitted the dreaded high level rear brake light.... :fighting:

This was the only pic I took as I got to 'into' fitting it!

Just needs a bit of sealant now round the edges and it's good to go.

Fairly easy. Took about 25 minutes probably. Hardest part was coaxing the casing from the spoiler, just needs some gentle persuasion.

Only problem I had was the 2 screws that attach the light fell out, but it also clips in so it still feels fairly solid and survived a couple of boot shut tests!!!

Just want to seal the edges to stop any more water ingress and also secure it a bit more. £45 from the dealers - better than their £400 alternative.

Changed my brakes to S3 ones all round, that had been refurbed in black.

Shame I lose the red 345mm OEM fronts but the black looks good on a Steel Grey.

Did a brake fluid flush and couldn't believe how manky the old fluid was once I used VCDS to purge the ABS pump
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)
