I fitted Golf R brakes to my GTI. Upside down. Doh. Thanks to @th3_f15t for pointing out the error (and supplying the goods).

They feel a lot sharper than the originals (now that I've got them on the right way!). And as an added bonus they look better than the originals too.

Nice fresh MOT for the GTI today!
No advisories and a clean bill of health
Not bad for 175500 miles

Where Napoleons armies marched with horse and musket and Hitlers Reich crumbled in blood and rubble, the warriors of Armageddon do battle against the landscape of hell now indeed thrive the ARMOURERS

Did you put the bleeders pointing down? I installed my stage 3 BBK as per the pics in the ECS install instructions, they(ECS) provided, and then finally got around to thinking and realized it that air will be up at the top like always   I contacted them and pointed it out and they have since revised their pics in the installation instructions.

Yup, had the bleeders at the bottom. Feel a bit stupid but in fairness it's really not obvious (that's my excuse anyway). VW should have designed them for idiots like me with "TOP" stamped on them

ECS videos leave me in stitches at times. If you get a chance have a look at the lower engine bush install :signLOL:  <iframe width="560" height="315" src="

As above, mine went in no problem.

Replaced the gubbed rear caliper this afternoon and have been left with a pedal I'm not particularly happy with. Tried pressure bleeding, pedal bleeding, even tried it with the engine running, but still it doesn't feel 100%. It goes rock solid after just one press with the engine off, but as soon as its running, it's kinda soft, not spongy and there is more travel on it than I remember (have been driving other cars this week which doesn't help!).

I can see me resorting to having all 4 wheels off in the coming weeks and connecting it to my vcds and doing all 4 brakes to see if that helps.

Hi you need to bleed from left  rear then right rear left front then right front or you won't get a solid pedal feel. try get someone to help you do this for a better job as I don't like the pressure bleed unless done on a ramp with an air line to the bottle.

I had hoped I would just have gotten away with just bleeding the one that I changed, as I have managed this before, but yeah, can see me having all 4 wheels off to bleed them all and the abs unit with vcds while I'm there.

Brakes all working fine, and biting well, so I will get it done inside the next week or so. I did pressure bleed it with an air supply, so I will try this again when I do all 4

When I did my Brembo's the pedal feel was awesome and I did this manually with a friend who was also a mechanic now floating in Bristol river as he is no longer with us.

Cool, I might as well do a full flush with vcds while I'm doing it. Don't suppose you have a guide, or is it pretty much select abs control module, and go through adaptation in there and it will prompt me for when to open each bleed nipple? Or have you never done it  via vcds just old fashioned pedal pushing with a friend?

I've never tried it with vcds but it's a simple enough procedure as you mentioned abs and follow the prompts.
