Okay thanks. Is it thicker than the stock one by much?

Just looking at it on my kitchen table it's a good bit thicker than the standard I/C. Will do a proper comparison with photos of size and thickness on Friday :happy2:

Are you k03 or k04?

I'm K03 at the minute but I've a K04 in the shed :happy2:

Went for the Peron with the K04 in mind :happy2:

If all the crazy plans I have in my head work out I'll hopefully be going CDL block, tte480 and AWD conversion with AKS.

So trying to do a bit of future proofing with the Peron and the custom 3in TBE I've had made. We'll see......

I might never get beyond a mapped K04 :ashamed:

This weekend was a good one.

First treated the car to a fresh coat of farclea G3 paste wax.

Followed by a trip to the coast to see @Eddie-NL for cruise control fitting. At the same time he chucked in an RNS315 sourced from eBay, with new gateway, mic and nav aerial. Couple of hiccups along the way meant a new ignition switch too (radio didn't turn off when key was removed).

Really glad I went to see Ed rather than attempt the radio install myself. Took far less time, and he was a mine of information, answering various questions I had about the car. Learnt a lot :)

That must have been a pretty big service.  What was done?

Went to pick up these BBS CK alloys from rdfcpete

But whilst on the motorway noticed temp drop from 90 to 75/80 - more than likely the dreaded main thermostat  :sad1:
Not sure if it's worth changing coolant temp sensor - pattern of fluctuation (warms up fine to 90 in 5-10 minutes, stays there during traffic/town driving but drops on motorway) Explains somewhat lowish MPG too. Get 20-22 around town and 32-34 motorway.

Wow!! Wheels are gorgeous!!

I just solved the exact symptoms you've described above by swopping out my main stat. MPG is noticeably better. It had been almost exactly in line with yours before I did the thermostat swap.

Motorway MPG now much better at 40+. Town MPG still not great. But I literally live in the centre of Dublin so it's bumper to bumper all day long. Good luck with it.

thanks mate but sadly or not sadly VrsAlex pointed out some not so good points to me which I appreciate

Exhaust hanger wrongly fitted and my nit and bolt job on the vibratechnics mount but had no choice as the original bolt I had wouldn't screw into the thread  :sad1: also fitted the subframe spacers in even the when I checked the bolts all of them were tight

Did anyone notice it says 5 speed on the steering rack  :signLOL: that's the worker at Nirro German car breakers for you  :stupid:

Finally bought one! Well..actually it was last week but after a brief summer romance with a Mazda Eunos I decided I would take the plunge and get a MK5

Couple of questions though,

1/ The rocker switch in the overhead interior light is stuck and is very reluctant to rock from side to side. Can it be replaced? Or does the whole dome light unit have to be swapped out?

2/ I want to change the window switches and main beam switch to the MK6(?) chrome-tipped ones..does anyone have the part numbers for the genuine ones or are the ebay replicas any good?

Cheers

Changed my knob today!

Before I had a cheap €20 aftermarket gearknob but it just didn't feel right and felt slack when gear changing. In the end I took the plunge and went OEM with the Edition 35 gearknob, immediately it felt better in everyway. You get what you pay for I guess!

I've got the ebay switches in mine. I got the kit that includes the auto headlight switch, all window switches for a 4 door, folding heated mirror switch and fuel flap release switch. All mine still look like new after 2 years.
Some people have said that the symbol for the windows is a little low on the switch but mine are fine.
