You shouldn't really put grease on wheel bolts

ordered new n/s door module as unlocking is becoming a pain. Sometimes having to press twice to release or lock and unlock twice.  Was going to solder repair then found replacements for £20 :happy2:

When you torque the bolts they'll be over-torqued due to the reduced friction.

As usual, I will dispute this

It doesn't matter with wheel bolts, otherwise VW would put a torque wrench under the boot mat, instead of a generic wrench that people jump on by the side of the road.

The price I had to pay for previous owners not using copper grease on the wheel bolts, was me having to buy an M14 tap to chase all the threads out.  One wheel bolt on the rear (and it's always the last one isn't it) needed a 40" breaker bar to loosen off.  Corroded to hell.

^I'd agree with that Pudding. Always used copper grease and never had a wheel fall off.

Never bother to use the torque wrench on my wheel bolts anyway, seems OTT.

I do torque mine up - to 85ish lbft I think - just to make sure the clamping force is evenly distributed across the hub face, just because I have a torque wrench to hand, otherwise I wouldn't bother either.
