I bother with torquing the wheel bolts to spec: 120 Nm (~90 lbft). I've read about it online and agree with what the experts said: just apply anti-seize grease between the hub and wheel and torque the bolts to spec on the correct order.

I remove my wheels often enough so I don't expect to have any problems with corrosion. And the weather here also helps...

+1 for copper anti seize on mounting face and bolt threads - used it since I started driving (long time ago now) and always torque the bolts to 120nm when refitting after removal.
OEM+ 2005 GTI DSG (high factory standard spec and upgraded with S3 alloy hubs, S3 alloy wishbones, Bilstein B8s and VWR springs by my own hands) owned since 2008 and still loving it!

I wouldnt use copper grease on anything, makes a right mess.

Aluminium anti sieze is much cleaner to use. Using that on bolts would be ok... but I wouldnt use actual "grease" on them.

Mmmmmm.....so that's a steell hub + alloy wheel, connected by steel bolts, all clagged in coper grease...and heated...and wet...And you don't think there will be any problems with corrosion?

I use Ceratec ceramic based brake grease to keep the wheel from sticking to the hub. Non-metallic, so not galvanic. Not expensive.

Not so sure about greasing whel bolts tho?
Fairly sure thay are specd as a dry torque? I'm sure Someone on here will be able to quote VW on this?

I really can't imagine VW providing a torque wrench for this job. You're lucky to get a spare wheel on many of their cars!

You're right. It wasn't copper grease that I read but anti-seize. I haven't applied any anti-seize so far to be honest because I haven't bought any but I've seen some mechanics apply it. Thanks for the correction.

I did some soundproofing to the roof since I've taken it all out anyway to replace the wire harness that support the dome lights, make-up lights at sunvisors etc..

StP gold on the metal, StP SPL8 8mm and added a layer StP Biplast 10mm as final layer.. Even now when the roof isn't putted back I must what a difference!  :drinking:

Can't wait until some better weather - then the whole floor is up.

There's always KY or Vaseline for those who like a clean lube.

Aluminium anti seize is the same as copper anti seize, just different metal powder in it.

TPS Exeter & Cornwall (VW steakers at Indian Queens - its the place name , honest!) Are Sh1t - Agreed!

I have been unable to get them to deal with me, even as the Ltd company that I still have from contracting days, apparently because its "Marine" not Automotive engineering!

So I was having a good month. Got my highlines fitted along with a kenwood dnx521. Then new Passat window switches and headlight switch. Got the headlight washers working to. Happy Ben all in until..............

Went to get in the car earlier and some complete cod piece has side swiped the o/s of my front bumper  :congrats: no note so it's now down to me to pay for it.

It's gouged it so it's a re paint job. So fast forward to tonight and I take the car out for a run, Come home and walk round the side of the car to see the f*cking headlight washer cap has come off and buggered off somewhere in the 20 mile drive

2 steps forward, 1 back.

After 2 weeks of public transport I've finally got my GTI back from the painters and got bumpers and sideskirts colour coded along with my front end getting fixed properly! The only downside is the that it has been p*ssing it down so haven't had the chance to admire the shine on it (plus it's filthy now)  :sad1:

Credit to @shaunnorris7  for the genuine R32 rear and @kam for the R32 xenon lights.

Going to give my wallet a rest now but soon I'm eyeing on a proper cold air feed intake, remap, exhaust and some Porsche brakes!
