Finally did it after putting it off for years, ufff.  Stiff bonnet release handle and bonnet open light on on the dash now fixed, finally.

Technically yesterday but treated the Eddy to a major service and some upgrades:

- spark plugs
- DSG service
- oil & filters
- new front shock
- top mount
- ball joint
- dipstick
- Ecs subframe locking kit

- vibratechincs dogbone bush & new OEM dogbone & bolts

- racingline ALK (although the bushes were stamped “SuperPro”)

- tracking

Car drives like new and the turn in is pinpoint. All the front creaks, knocks and groans have now gone and the gearbox no longer lurches into first (which I think was the result of a knackered dogbone mount bush). Take off from a standstill is also much quicker, again I think the ‘box was moving in the slack of the old bush.

- also changed the cam follower (no record of it being changed by PO and after all the recent chat on here was keen to get it swapped). Old one was fine after 95k miles. Phew!!

Finally, MoT which passed no advisories.

R-tech remap next on the list once I’ve changed the PCV & hoses which have seen better days.

Yes - that a rewarding fix  - Is that ZXT lube good?

I changed the drivers side engine mount for an uprated one which had the voids filled with a poly mix of some sort meaning it should be a lot stiffer.  Took my time and supported the engine before removing the bolts and and replacing the mount All good and the old one was shot, easily moving it by hand with very little resisitance and splits in the rubber.  BUT on start up, it feels like I'm in a diesel...  I'll give it a few weeks to see if it settles down and if not, I May remove it and drill some holes in it.

I also noticed a petrol smell over the week when walking away from it and looking underneath I could see where it had been losing some by the filter.  I checked today and it looks like the one of the pipes going to the fuel filter, so I removed it, greaed it up an pushed it back on firmly until it clicked in place.  I then used a cable tie to hold it in place against the filter.  I'm hoping this is the reason why I have been getting fuel cuts when accelerating...

I'll take some increased NVH as long as the ride in general is better. I have fitted lots of poly bushes and I think I'm now used to a slightly harsher idle experience.

Yeah that is also where I saw it  :happy2:

I bought it because of it's syringe type applicator, so it properly gets into the door hinges etc (they were squeaking).  Seems to be a good oil, but I've never heard of them before, so can't compare to anything else.  It's not cheap mind!

Yeah, ST went a bit extra with the rear spring rates!

You need some ARBs now

Steering wheel airbag badge was flaking and scratched by previous owner......been on my hit list for a while, so decided to change it.

I did try and find another mk5 airbag with a decent badge but there are none for reasonable money, and then discovered that the VW Fox airbag badge looks similar.....took a punt on a very cheap and really good condition 2010 airbag and the badge was immaculate.

Removed both badges and fitted the UP (not an UP but a Fox) version to the GTI.....perfect fit, just a minor scuff remain on the bag casing which I can live with

Where did you get the badge from? Mine could do with replacing too.

@bobby_fodge  I think it will be an acquired taste but there is a noticeable improvement when driving, difficult to quantify in words but perhaps more 'stable' or 'solid' when changing direction. It's only when idling I notice the increase in nvh and the thrum when driving is like a smooth diesel or driving a three pot engine.  I'll fit the gearbox one below the battery this evening, see how much of a difference that makes too and report back.

And I'm happy to state that pushing the fuel hose into place 'until it clicked' and using cable ties to keep it tight seems to have cured not only my fuel cuts when accelerating hard but also now allows the car to start so much more quickly than previously.  It doesn't need to turn over several times at all now and also feels a bit more peppy. I'm hoping the fuel lasts longer no matter what the mpg states on the dashboard.

Absolutely. I felt the improved engine and gearbox mounts made a really noticeable positive difference to how the car feels. Totally agree with your use of the world solid to describe the feel of them.
