What did you and your MKV do today?

Removed my tatty, torn dv valve and replaced it with the revision d. Wow...just wow.

What difference is there on your car?  How did you know that the dv valve was torn?

The performance over the past few weeks has been sluggish; noticed a whistling sound when accelerating, a flat spot between 2500-3500 revs and the mpg had dropped like a stone. From reading this forum, these are the classic signs of a DV where the rubber diaphragm is broken - for £55 I bought a new revision d dv and my husband fitted it using the 'how to' guide from this forum.

It's now pulling in all gears and the flat spot has gone.

Thanks for that.  My mpg is like low 20's and and I'm not driving it hard. In stop start traffic and I've wondered if the cars using more fuel than it should be.  It occasionally creeps up towards 30 mpg but I'm yet to see that figure even on a gentle cruise. I've been using momentum since i brought the car two and half weeks ago.  Im going to take the car in for an inspection....

Had the ED30's 4 year cambelt/waterpump and full service done today, also had fuel filter and PCV changed.  Had 2 advisories.
 First was that i needed 2 new front tyres (down to 3mm each) and really not happy as these are goodyear F1's and have been on car only 3 months and done a couple of thousand miles on them. Something very not right there? oh well, 2 new F1's ordered through Trye Shopper fitted for £255.
Second advisory was that i needed front brake pads and was quoted (by VW main stealers who just emptied my wallet for everything else) £138 fitted, seems to be taking the piss to me! Needless to say i will be getting them done elsewhere.
Finally after looking over the invoice for the work done i noticed that the Diverter valve had not been done which i had asked told them to change. They said that my old old was absolutley fine and did not need changing. Was then told that the piston Diverter valve is not in use on the mk6 as they have gone back to a diaphragm version. i have no idea about the mk6 but quite frankly what the f**k has that to do with me or my mk5 ED30?????
I left...................................swearing (under my breath), went home and ordered a Revision D DV from Awesome GTi online for about £1 cheaper than the stealers would have charged for the part and i might even fit it myself.  

So thats what i have done with my car today, over £1000 spent and not a mod in sight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

....It's one thing to inform you that you may (according to your mileage rate and driving style) need new tyres in the near future, but quite another to issue an advisory which suggests a MOT failure if you don't immediately comply.

It's obviously not sensible to let your tyres wear right down to the legal minimum of 1.6 mm but if 3 mm you still have some miles you can do. Sounds to me as if they are trying to steal your hard-earned!

Defo sounds like they're trying to make a little extra on the side.  Ive got loads of things to do on my car....no mods for a while for me

Whilst waiting, annoyed already , one of the 'vw bods' told me that he can do me a great deal on new tyres as mine were looking dangerous. However I'd LITERALLY just driven from the garage where I'd had BRAND NEW tyres fitted! 

Pull another one VW!

I had something similar at VW in Nuneaton although the tyres weren't new but had worn to 5mm. I was advised I should have them changed straightaway and I should get Continentals from them as they were much harder and would wear much better than the Michelins that were on the car (these were Michelin Energy Saver, which I have found to be harder than granite btw).
I politely declined and tried my best to not piss myself laughing.

For the 2 tyres VW "claim" i needed they quoted me £161.86 for each Premiem Tyre and a whopping £181.01 for each Intermediate Tyre. One was a Dunlop and the other a Conti', I declined their kind offer and walked out!

If not the dv then consider the MAF sensor. I replaced mine a few weeks ago because I was struggling to get 26 mpg over the past few months. Now I get 28 mpg average same driving and route without having to try. Coming home today (37 miles) I averaged 33.4 mpg.

I took my mk6 gti into the dealers for its first service only to be told that I needed to change the bulbs for my front 2 indicators as they were on the way out. They said they would just charge me £28 for the job. They got told to fcuk off!

How they know when a bulb is about to go is a mystery to me but I imagine they could make a fair bit of money by sharing that secret. 30,000 miles later and the bulbs were still fine

Cheers mate. Was £330 all in at the wheel specialists. Was quoted £380 online but was £50 cheaper when I went to collect the car. All done on the same day.
