Maybe I'm using the wrong word. When I got out of my old Mk5 after Stage 1, I was beaming uncontrollably, same with my current car from stock to Stage 1 PDT/Storm. Maybe it's because this time I've just gone from PDT/Storm Stage 1 to a different stage 1, there's not a huge difference, just how the power is distributed. It doesn't feel as urgent though as it did this morning, certainly in the lower revs and gears. It did however feel smoother and better in high er rev range and in 3rd and 4th. I'm not sure it's right though. My ex's felt quicker, and that made 240 on their rollers, this made 253 with more torque. It certainly doesn't feel aggressive.
....As you suggest, I think it's highly likely that going from a Stage1 to another Stage1 does not reproduce that very first time you experienced your car being remapped - There simply isn't enough difference in the power being delivered. Also, you have got used to a Stage1 power - Try switching back to Stock! The GTI still feels fast but not as alive. You quickly get used to Stock and still enjoy the car.
However, you may have personal preferences about how you like your power served.
Other folks have described Revo's maps as "aggressive" but that's not how I find it. A friend let me drive his Mk5 GTI with a MTM remap and it was either on or off like a hardware switch - That was what I call aggressive and actually not very driveable, which is why he changed it.
I'll never forget the first time I was able to open up the throttle after leaving JKM when they had just installed Revo Stage1: It was uphill on the ramp onto the M27. I think I was shouting "
Wehaaaay !!" out loud. It was an event like losing your virginity.
Stage1 to Stage2 is noticeable but not to the same extent - It seems to fill out the mid range a bit and deliver good acceleration from ~80 upwards.
