I want a bit of a drop, but not too much. Does anyone know how much a set of H&R springs would be? not sure how much of a drop just a subtle lower...   :happy2:

Got impatient when trying to fit my chrome fuel flap switch and have now knackered the grey surround of it!. Door card wasn't budging easily at the bottom, so in frustration I pulled at the card below the switch which prized the plastic away from the switch surround enough for me to lever that up instead. With difficulty I could then pull the old switch out (breaking it in the process) and just about manage to lever the new one in. Anyway when I slipped the surround back into place it doesn't fit neatly. It is sticking up because I think I have stretched the door card plastic next to it when I was pulling at it. It doesn't look awful, but I am pissed at myself for being so hamfisted! I only have myself to blame for trying to rush it

....Oh dear! Sorry to hear that. I guess it's why I rarely do any DIY on my car.

Cheers. Yeah, I try to do only the easiest things usually because I have limited skill and do tend to lose my patience!
know exactly how you feel, i waited until my car went in the garage for something and got them to put all the chrome switches in for me as i knew i would have prob done the same thing as you have done, are you just gonna leave it as is, its not that bad really but yeah annoying  :happy2:

If I was you I'd wait for the front centre part to arrive and put it together off the car as its a bugger to do once fitted to the car

Rear valance is either a take the whole bumper off which I think needs the lights off to or just take your time and do it attached to the car

Patience and taking your time with the clips is the key  :happy2:

Dave

Definitely taking time is key, but have to disagree with the front lip - my car was missing it when I first bought it, and putting the middle bit on was a doddle.

As for the rear bumper, I found it easy to remove with the top half still on the car but pushing the new bottom half on was a pain - so we ended up just taking the top half off the car - which is really easy - just lights off and a couple of bolts. Wish we had just taken the whole bumper off to start with as it was so easy to take off and put the bottom half on when not on the car
VCDS cable HEX-USB+CAN. New but can do the basics including coding

PMSL, that's exactly what I thought before, but thought it best to not just post that! So thanks.

The rims look good too m8 - similar to the Ed.30 ones.

ha-ha, thanks guys... Yeah they are pretty neat boxes! That's why I chose them they look pretty OEM. Cades Wheels in Luton (I travelled 1hr 30m to get there) well worth it and the staff are first class...

Got two new rears as the guy who has the car before me put really nasty cheap budgets on and the wall on the inside had split!! A nice surprise for me!

Received these in the post today  :jumpmove: I've gone for gloss black on the lower inner sections still waiting for the toe cap and front inner piece to arrive. Any tips on fitting these?

ready to fit's website's pictures & descriptions are a bit hopeless.
could you list the parts and their part numbers you have bought from them please.
what colour are they? looks too pink for tornado red?

Yeah the website isn't great I just called up found it a lot easier that way gave them my reg and told them how I wanted it painted, so don't even know the part numbers. The pictures are from my phone there on the car now perfect match will post pics once I've cleaned it hopefully if the weather holds out!

Removed old the canbus gateway and installed a new one supplied super fast by Eddie-NL  :drinking:

Here's a guide

My UK GTI is an 06 plate, MY07. I read the job would be a total nightmare. I was ready with pliers to unclip the canbus gateway. Not needed it just lifts out.

I found having a range of big and small (pen sized) torches to hand very helpful. Also a mat to put on the garage floor as you will be on the floor on your knees /lying on the floor with just your stomach on the footwell looking upwards into the spec that's behind the drivers storage compartment to the right hand side of a UK steering wheel. So not a job to do in the wet if you park outside.

1) note installed items on current canbus gateway using VCDS. Note the names of items installed, NOT the numbers (these don't match on the new canbus) or take a scrolling screen grab using free software like DuckCapture (free windows software)

2) disconnect battery black negative terminal

3) undo 2x T20 screws that hold the trim panel above pedals (to allow torches to shine and light you way)

4) remove drivers storage compartment by pressing in on both sides when its opens and then pull down, after that it unclips at the bottom

5) look for red plug approx 20mm wide on top of black box (box is the canbus gateway that you want to get to)

6) black frame that holds the grey block (relay) that is in the way unclips and can be moved to the right hand side. You don't need to unplug any relays.

7) here's where I thought I'd need pliers, but didn't need any tools. Reach in with one hand and gently but firmly pull the canbus gateway upwards. It just slots and unclips out. This allows you to bring it towards you, rotate it so you can unclip the red plug from the canbus (pressure clip so I carefully used a screwdriver to press in the clip). You have removed the out canbus gateway. Plug in your new canbus gateway and slot it back, the reverse of the removal. You can see it slot down in approx 20mm.

8.) put relays holder and trim back in place (or you could do this after step 10 which allow you to check the canbus is connected correctly)

9) reconnect battery

10) connect VCDS and check canbus is installed, and added installed items you noted in step one.

11) I had a warning light about my steering angle adjustment, but this disappeared after I had driven and steered for 15 seconds. Car threw an error about the rear fog light and reverse light, but after coding to RHD all errors/ quirks disappeared and all working fine:)

You now have a new canbus and can install newer radios etc without battery drain  :happy2:

My lovely neighbour parked across my drive and blocked me in, Idiot
now was he just half asleep or is he generally an idiot
2 years ago when the snow was really really bad i spent an hour outside my front window digging a space for my wife to park when she came home.
when i finished i was putting the shovel and stuff back in the garage when someone parked in the space ffs.
its a quite street and nobody really parks directly in front of peoples houses its just that there was piles of snow everywhere.
i asked the guy politelly to please move as i had just dug all that only for him to reply ( where else am i going to park ) i wont print my response to that but needless to say a minute later he was gone
idiot as you say.
