Took the day off work and drove up north for these bad boys off a Golf S.

£80.00 all in, plenty of tread, very pleased. Gonna use them for winters and for when I get mine refurbished.

Dropped the Golf at the garage this morning for a replacement steering rack under warranty, however the rack they have been sent by TPS is a GEN3 whereas my Golf is a GEN2 which is no longer available from VW. The warranty is provided by RAC and on the level on cover I have they pay the first £1,000 meaning with a new rack and now subframe and adapter wiring loom it’s going to set me back £500!

The subframe and loom have been ordered from TPS and should be delivered tomorrow meaning I have the sh1tty 1lt hire car for another day.  :fighting:

Took this pic of an intake valve today...hope it cleans up doing a blow-by tomorrow.

I'm getting mine checked next week by JKM. Going to be interesting to see what they find. Seriously entertaining water/methanol injection as a mod. which could keep it from developing in this way again. Have also learnt that VW have added a second set of injectors to the latest TSI motors to combat this very issue. They'll tell you it's for other reasons though
Fundamental issue is overlapping cam timing and combustion gases getting into this chamber baking the crap in place. Oil is allowed past the valve stems for lubrication purposes which doesn't help but is essential to our engines. PCV system will have contributed but most likely not in a major way.

Fitted pressed plates, GTI rear valance with mud flaps, RCD510 DAB with antenna and booked in for custom stainless exhaust! (Technically this took me a few days, but in writing about it now lol!)
How hard can it be?

Where'd you get your pressed plates from?  I'm considering Dubmeister, but also wondering what the alternatives are.

I'd try these

http://www.europl8.net

I got mine of eBay and the logo at the bottom is not as discreet as the europl8 ones I seen.

Saying that I've ran standard pressed and shortened pressed and now running acrylic plates again  :signLOL:

Went for a quick drive to get some cash, on the way back I had a silly little corsa vxr behind me, and a Volvo and a bus infront of me, in a 40 zone, so 40 mph it is... Dickhead behind me boots it and does at least 50/60 going past all three of us, next minute later the Volvo puts its blues and twos on.... Hehehe knobhead
