Removing VW cap from center of Alloy wheel

Really struggling to pop the cap off... anyone got any hint/tips/ideas?

I've tried a knife, screwdriver and a stanley knife!

Don't fancy taking the wheel off yet because of the weather, i figured it would just be a 2 second job!! (How wrong was i!!!)

I recently swapped a couple of my caps over. But I had the wheel off. There are about 4/5 clips in the inside and It would be quite hard to get them out from the front with the wheel still on. I guess if you had like 3/4 flatblades you might be able to go in down the sides and push the clips but you'd wreck the wheel or the cap.

If all the clips are intact and none are snapped they require a good amount of the back end of the screw driver to get them in, never mind take them out!

Sorry it's not much help but I'm struggling to figure out how it can be done :(

maybe some sort of suction thing to hold onto them, and pull..?

I would take the wheel off lol, its what VW advises , if you are binning them drill a screw in and use that as leverage

It only takes a few mins to take the wheel off and you'll kick yourself if you don't and end up damaging the wheel/cap!

If anybody else wants to remove the VW caps on the alloys, use this method! There's about 2cm's behind the cap before you hit sheer metal... nothing to damage... drill a small hole slowly, and screw the first couple of mm's of a long screw into the hole and just pull it off (may need some pliers) but it worked perfectly and saved taking all the wheels off!

I also drill them if removing due to white worm etc, 4 mm drill bit and then use the little 'hook' key in the tool set that you have for removing the bolt covers, works perfectly
