rear gti bumper options
« on: June 15, 2011, 01:03:19 pm »
I'm wondering what people make of this setup. Basically get a standard GTI rear bumper, colour code it and leave the exhaust bit stock black.

With me having a TDI and crap exhaust and no money to get a twin pipe'd system. I was thinking of doing what this guy did. Basically blank the cutout and wrap the bottom in carbon vinyl.

What are people's opinion on this? Good or bad?

Will need to get the lower section smoothed before you wrap it otherwise it will peel off in no time,
Though if you fancy it then go for it.

Yeah I was thinking that. I'm actually going to skip the wrapping to be honest.
If it doesn't cost too much I may get it smoothed and done gloss black rather than leaving it the default texture. Haven't had time to ring around for quotes on doing it yet but hopefully it's not too much

Tbh for the cost of the work to blank the exhaust area, have it smoothed and painted, wouldn't it be cheaper to get a used GTi back box.  I am looking at this option on the GT 140 we just acquired.  :happy2:

A possible option:

Looks like a GTi but suitable for the TDi with no tailpipes exposed.

Holy cow, look how close those alloys are to the kerb in that last pic!  :scared:
Back end looks nice, the side skirts set it off well.

Thats a really good option, well spotted.  I wish I'd seen that a couple of weeks ago........ :sad1:

That is a pretty good piece. I've found this as well http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-GOLF-V-5-MK5-Rear-Bumper-Balance-GTI-TDI-GT-R32-/270791406474?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3f0c6cf38a#ht_1292wt_1235

Thing is, I'm a little put off by buying these off ebay without having comments on their quality.
I realised now it's cheaper to buy a gti back box and rear valance than having that work done. I've just been struggling to find one since forever.

I'm tempted to buy one of the 2 rear bumper copies without the cut outs. Can't decide which one...

I'm in the same position.....
I've just bought a GT TDi 140 for the wife and changing the bland rear end is high up on the things to do list but as you mentioned, I'm a little wary about the quality and fit.......
The pictures they have added where fitted and painted look great but I wonder how close their copies are to the originals......

If you buy one you can let me know!

I'll need to bite the bullet soon and decide on what to do.

For 50 quid from TPS I would just go for the OE GTi valance, I prepped mine myself and had it coded for £70.
