Headlight & Side Light Bulbs
« on: June 17, 2011, 12:23:19 pm »
I have the standard lights on my GTI and think the bulbs are too yellow

What bulbs do you guys recommend to give a whiter light?

I don’t want a complicated setup; just a bulb swap would be preferred.

Thanks

Are the main headlight and side light bulbs the same, H7's?

Also read about LED bulbs being used?

The dipped beam headlight is a H7 bulb. The sidelights are smaller and are 501 fitment (the same as most of the internal bulbs).

LED sidelights are much brighter than the standard and give a whiter light. I have changed my sidelights to LED and I  prefer the look.

Make sure if you get LED bulbs you get ones with resistors built into them (usually called "no error" bulbs). This will prevent there being an error message thrown up on the dash.

These are he bulbs i got from Ebay, that have 5 LEDs and are pretty bright.

Hope this helps

I have Philips X-treme ones. Love'em. Got them from powerbulbs and got free sidelights too.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Thanks guys :happy2:

So looking like Osram Nightbreakers or Philips Xtreme Vision for the dipped/main headlights.

The phillips are double the price of the osram's. Are they worth the difference?

I thought I would post this here for reference as I was confused myself when looking earlier.

This is a good guide I found on another forum for car manufacturers original bulbs:
