water type marks on the paintwork???
« on: June 19, 2011, 11:15:27 pm »
My car has just come back from the garage...I gave it a good wash yesterday and noticed after drying off that there is marks in the clear coat, they look like water marks after its been raining but I cannot get them out with Megs 83 on a yellow pad?

Is the clear coat busted :scared: its only previously come back from the bodyshop before the garage?

It it's proper water marks, vinegar should get them out. Any pics?

If its the marks I am thinking of,its when they mask of areas with plastic wrapping and moisture is trapped underneath it so when its in the booth it eats into the laquer

Hey darren, I had the same the other day mate. (well maybe not the exact same)

I was going out and as I got to the car I noticed the biggest sloppiest bird cack all over the front wing (of the car, not the bird)
(the bird was long gone) (I think....it may well have been watching....laughing to himself, or herself)
The poop was all translucent in colour (well it looked like milk, but believe me it didn't taste like milk)    but as it was pi$$ing it down I thought I would leave it on till I got back. I didn't want to get wet. (it would just make the bird laugh even more)
When I returned home it was still raining hard so I left it. 99% of it had washed off anyway  :ashamed:

The next day I cleaned the car. After cleaning/drying/using the Megs ultimate detail spray  I noticed that where the poo-poo had been, there were what looked like watermarks.
They took some shifting too I can tell you.

just thought I would share.

Bird lime can damage the clearcoat so it needs to be removed ASAP. I really need to start carrying a bottle of QD and MF but for now I'm using AG bird wipes which are excellent. Could potentially inflict scratches but I'd rather have marks that I can easily polish out than a damaged clearcoat.

I was up early this morning taking the father in law to work, tried the vinegar but to no affect at all, its like its already damaged the clear, also tried PoorBoys SSR2 but just nothing,

I think the paint is now screwed it seems to be limited to the roof and rear passenger qtr.

what ive seen before is this sort of damage coming out of bodyshops after the car has just been finished and the paint is still soft.

what can happen is if your car is complete and they park it out in the rain etc, then bring it back inside wet, it can collect overspray in the water beads on your car. This then dries and leaves and awful mess. it sometimes can be removed, sometimes it cant. Its all to do with if the paint on your car has fully crosslinked i.e. cured. Most paint jobs coming out of bodyshops only cure a few weeks after the car has been painted. mainly due to them being lazy/greedy with not baking them long enough. One in One out.

Have a look at.....

http://www.miglior.co.uk/swissvax-portfolio/range-rover-sport-swissvax-manchester-enhancement-detail/

the process of how it was removed hasn't been fully explained on there as A) i dont like to bombard people with waffle on my website and B) other detailers are always all over it trying to learn from me then compete against me! haha!

there is quite a bit to it with various different solvents and abrasive techniques but if it looks something like that, chances are i can sort it for you.
