« on: March 16, 2009, 11:36:36 pm »
Hey guys  my Itg Panel filter arrived in the post from Merlin Motorsport today :jumpmove: Haven't fitted it yet but was after a bit of Info on it before it swap it with the old Pipercross 1! I remember hearing someone say on here that the got 1 and before fitting they had to wipe any excess oil from the filter is this true?

Thanks in advance

Yes it's true!

Wipe/mop up the excess oily stuff with a kitchen roll then you are good to go.

....

I didn't wipe mine and have never had a problem in over 40k miles so far. I'm not saying you shouldn't wipe though.

You shouldn't be running oiled filters on German cars, its a sure fire way of killing your MAF.

Now I know you're going to say "well my cars fine", but I get knackered oily MAFs on exchange all the time at work and I previously worked for a filter company who saw comeback fall significantly when the oil was removed from German applications.

....We've had this discussion before. Have a word with ITG's techheads - It's not the same kind of oil that K&N etc use IIRC.

Have a read of this (1/4 down the page) and see what you think...

I tend to agree with you, even following ITG's reply - hence why I'm now running a Pipercross filter in mine .

....So how are 'German' cars so different from others regarding air filters?
