Yes, OEM Porsche are Brembo (al least mine).



Rex, just looking through a thread and see you have fitted a set of discs with the "J hook" and was wondering where you got them or did you have them made? Any info on them at all would be great, thanks!

Gone for red.  Did you sell your OEM setup?

Will let you know what disc / pad combo Dave advises


Have you facebook, Mike? be easier than uploading pics... I don't have any sitting in photobucket.

OEM setup is in the garage, as is all my OEM stuff, in two minds whether to sell on now or replace everything come selling up time...

If you have the space and arent in need of the cash Id probably keep hold of them.  I never used to have any space :(  So move oem parts on as they were replaced.
Do wish I had them just incase though.

If you get a quote from dealer let me know how much for the pads I get 19% off porsche dealer prices and am in Uk in a fortnight to save postage if you needed some  :happy2:

Why necessarily aftermarket, Boxster owners don't tend to complain their brakes don't work - I've seen them lap all day on track with no issues.

Any specialist should get Pork pads, but I'd suggest unless you go high end ceramic £250 a set Pagid RS stuff, your hopes of performance and no dust are peeing in the wind.



A fair point, and put like that, there's not much I can say really... I guess I just had it in my head if I'm paying the money for new pads, when the ones fitted don't need changing... I'd just go for the best I could get (within reason) and automatically assumed the aftermarket route  :smiley:

I'll definitely bare the OEM pads in mind but still wanting to here what the fast road setup men are using and their observations regarding the levels of dust their pad of choice produces.

I've used the following, see what you can find from each in Boxster shape and have a read about their compound types to see what suits?

Carbotech,
Carbon Lorraine,
EBC (DO NOT BUY THIS CRAP),
Brembo,
Performance Friction,
Pagid,
Ferrodo,
Mintex.

The Pagids were best in terms of dust levels and being road friendly, but don't forget anything uprated means it's useless until it's hot. Stamping on cold brakes and having nothing happen when you really need them is frightening!

What are you doing with the car? Road only or track work??

I'm in Northern Ireland so postage would still have to be arranged but I'm sure there would still be a saving of some kind if you were willing to ship them over.

I'll give The dealership a shout tomorrow and see what they say.

Can anyone tell me the year(s) of the Boxster our kit is off? It's the 986 model I think but just want as much info as possible so I get a quote for the correct pads.

The discs come from DaveB. The same with the pads.

Carbotech can be made to fit this caliper (they will make any pad shape you like) but are extremely noisy
Pagid has a large collection to fit Porsche calipers (I have the Orange ones for road and track use and they are great)
Ferrodo also make DS2500 for this caliper but Pagid (Blue, Orange and of course, Yellow) are better.

I want to get a nice fast road setup I suppose is the best way to describe it.

Everything that's been said so far is probably pointing me towards OEM Porsche (Brembo) pads. I wouldn't be doing much tracking (if any) - it's something I wouldn't mind doing further down the line though.

I do want performance for the odd occasion on the road where it might be useful  :driver: but they do have to work in everyday driving conditions therefore I think OEM Porsche ticks all those boxes!

currently running mintex 1144s on that kit which can be a bit noisy and dusty but do have some bit

daveb rated textar as a road pad when i spoke to him which is prob what i'll go for or oem pork

Pagid or Textar are the OE manufacturers for Porsche, so you can buy either and be comfortable you are getting "Porsche" brake pads but as without the porsche box, but the same pads inside. Both are good agree you won't get rid of the dust but will stop you very well. I have the NQSBBK on my GTI and IIRC the calipers are from the 2.5 Boxster, front brakes. This is important as the later boxsters have a bigger engine and (I think) bigger brake pads.

I went with Textar initially but then tried Ferodo DS2500's. Both are great although the notable improvement in going from OEM to NQSBBK kind of masked any improvement that I might have expected with the DS2500s. I would say the Pagid and Textar are plenty good enough.

I also got my J-hooks direct from DaveB.
